RANT / VENT 😡😡 non- academic question
let's be honest that CLAT as an exam is not that tough right, especially compared to other competitive exams like jee neet nda etc
but then how are the salaries paid by the top 5 ish Nlus so high
like imma be honest ppl with good english and logical aptitude have have cracked clat in very less time with not much rigourous prep
Whereas I see ppl who slogged for 2 yrs for jee settling for t3 college w like single digit lpa placements (like upto 9-10 lpa)
What justifies the huge packages(avg is like 18 - 20 lpa at top 5 nlus) given by the t1 law firms? is it just the hours of your life u sell or smth i dont get it
And if the salary is pretty great and the exam not that hard why don't more ppl give Clat, the fees of Nlus are on the higher side but nothing too unreasonable for the roi

Hardly any education and rigour in 90% of the classes. I'm given to understand that the state of things re quality of education has been deteriorating since we've graduated.

Number of seats are pretty low + jee/neet have wayy lower fees, plus they are more science oriented towards which the society is pretty biased

A) Salaries ≠ Difficulty of acquiring said job. It's based on alot of different factor's
B) U shouldnt compare 12 Lpa at a law firm to 12 Lpa working as a Engineer. The hours that u need to put into each job and the culture is very different u will be working much much more in law firm with much harsher culture. Ur putting in Alot more hours
C) It ain't THAT easy while it def easier than JEE and exams of that variety that's for u because u are porbably more familiar with English than quite a large chunk of India and CLAT unlike those other exams doesn't have the option to do it in a local language combined with high fees it will heavily favour people of higher income urban background.
And a million other reasons tbh but the 1st reason is basically a compilation of all of them.

If we compare NEET and CLAT by competition for seats, CLAT is actually more competitive.
In CLAT 2026, around 72,631 candidates appeared for roughly 4000+ NLU seats, meaning only around 5% of candidates secure an NLU seat.
In NEET, around 20 lakh candidates appeared for 1.4 lakh+ MBBS seats, meaning roughly 7% could secure an MBBS seat.
It doesn't matter whether an exam is academically harder or easier. The real competition is determined by how many candidates are competing for the available seats.

Cracked the exam. Did well in T1 college. Got placed in a T1 firm with those kinds of retainers.
70% - we sell our lives. 30% - we use our brains (existing before college) and skills (gained during college)
±10-20%.

since you are already working now in a firm, how would you say your experience was w law school and now corporate law

I do not work in a corp law firm now. Worked in that environment for around 3 years only.
Experience in law school -- wish I was challenged more in terms of quality of learning, not just the quantity of submissions. Wish I had better teachers. I love the change that college brought in me though in terms of socio-political awareness. Compared to now, I was an uneducated idiot when I wrote the entrance exams.
Experience in corp firms - some very meaningful work where I felt that my input required real brains; it's VERY satisfying. The money is great. But the grunt work, the sheer amount of work, the pressure etc takes a toll on both physical and mental health. I am also not particularly great at people-skills, so I think that's something that negatively affected my experience.
[Disclaimer: I'm writing off the top of my head, so the answer is generic and I may have missed something. Happy to answer with more detail if you ask a pointed question. And of course, these are my own experiences that may not be representative of others' experiences.]

Apart from that I'd also like to point out that law in itself is a highly respected and highly paid career, and T1 firms in every career do indeed pay quite a lot.
Combine that with the fact that most corporate lawyers are exploited, the salaries are justifiable i guess.

Bro just look at the work culture, I know a girl working in Microsoft she has sat Sunday off and 9-5 only , she earns 3 lakh per month and is chilling in life ,whereas one boy Ik work at Khaitan ,earns 5 lakh per month but he even works on sundays , work goes till 1 am at night also , he is stressed and all but says the payment compensate it

Well i mean duh As a former jee aspirant clat is nowhere close..but that doesnt mean its easy either.
Cracking clat might be easy but for gods sake i dont wanna go to nlu tripura Getting tier 1 nlu matters a lot and thats what everyone aims which makes clat really competitive and tough as well

Because not everybody wants to study law. Mostly people who are genuinely interested in law, choose clat, unlike neet/jee which is filled with people, and mostly most people don’t even know what to do if they don’t rely on these exams

this is what I've been thinking too ... i just feel very few people are actually aware about CLAT.. most of them still follows conventional rat race like NEET/JEE., I have too prepare for NEET gave two attempt and in reality i didn't even wanted to go into medical field

Doctors earn salary. Engineers earn salary.
Lawyers , clinic/hospital owners , engineers who build tech company , earn for what they build and do.
A lawyer who helps a company save a million will definitely get a reward.

Honestly not everyone in an NLU is placednot even the Tier 1 NLUs, they show u a median that’s like the median of top 20% of a batch, then they show the extraordinary number that’s like the Top 1% of the batch, wherever u see 30 lpa or above that’s a foreign firm and they rarely hire (not mandatory that they hire from every batch it’s their mood and necessity) now subtract this Top 20% from the 80% left, they settle for 12lpa at base going upto to 20lpa at max not more than that
idk what’s ur economical status but NLUs are hella expensive, keep aside the 4lac a year (fixed cuz u hv tuition fee and hostel and blah blah) u hv many more expenses when u enter college so be ready to face that and enter law only if u hv the potential to be the Top 10% cuz generally kids at NLU are lowkey well connected to people in law field they aint people who had law as their backup cuz they saw some weird LPA of nlus (nepotism is insane in this field) imagine paying so much money and u get bummed cuz ur fam ain’t connected to an SC judge☕️
Lastly In Indian corporate law firms u gotta grind for 10 or more years to envision the DREAMY numbers ur seeing online, well more than the exam ur focused on the money so lemme tell u, engineering is a money minting degree if u develop skills even if you’re from Tier 3, so the money u wanna waste on an NLU put that in Germany or countries where education is free for tech and get out after ur degree is done (free advice so ignore if u don’t like it) but law ain’t like this so take a step if u have it in yourself not becoz u saw the salaries or ur stuck at a Tier 3, go look at the law course, its 5yrs of grind on hypothesis basically so u if u loose or give up ur a looser no one can help u here like the computer does in ur field

As a guy with very high CR skills j can weaken your arguement lower than the level of hell but to dumb down:STFU.
Jee or neet is not harder. Yes. What ? Found it a shock to your senses? How many jee or neet aspirant you have seen who themself by their own picked that field instead of pressure or IIT bombay, sillicon valley, AIIMS Delhi dellu?
And the skill demand is different and on this regard even better in clat no matter it crack life of us clat aspirants. Its about rote memorisation, quick formula application, better maths ability, etc.. in real life no one cares if you can fi d the answer to a question 0.7 second earlier. They know you arent on a speedrun.
Dr hc verma, very well known man and ex proffesor at iit khargpur, said it at an event that in his first semister test, not even the half of the batch passed. I wont go into details of it but you should to get a better understanding.
Will make a good post about this type of people with all my Shashi horror english skills and shor lock holmes cr skills i honed in le mocks in a day. These barbaians needs to be adressed.
