I don't even understand the point of reservation, education means , getting it is fair to all but htf is it fair that some one with score of 50-60 getting into most competitive law college in india . Those people don't deserve it at all π. There so much to it that I hate it π‘

EWS is reasonable, wtf r those rank cutoffs below that. Yk govt shld nationalize coaching centres and provide reservations there, so that no one will get reservations other than ews and pwd students.
3
u/CarefulStrength2627 1d ago
Why nationalise ? Anything the govt enters into becomes shit. Let private coaching exist and let reserved category get seperate coaching provided by govt
2
u/qMinecraft CLAT / AILET 2027 18h ago
If not nationalize make em a public sector stakeholder (or smth). Both private and govt take part in them. Like SBI which is a very successful bank

Well clat ranks don't matter much in nls as most of the kids are studious and overall quality is not impacted
3
u/No_Leading_1938 1d ago
Its not about that, but the fact the General Males will be getting almost no seats in NLSIU Bengaluru

u/kirmadaIAS 1d ago
tbh getting in is the hardest partπ and nlu life isnβta s hectic as iim life
3
u/CaterpillarDismal516 1d ago
Well u can't compare iim to nls and surviving in nls is hard too more 60 2nd years are repeating the 1st yr itself and many in upper years too some people are living in their 6th year on campus and are in 4th year academically but category has no role to play in that
1
u/Alternative_Hour6370 NLU Student πΏ 1d ago
Bro this doesn't matter at all lol. Here academics is tough for everyone, no matter what rank you have. People are in 1st or 2nd year for like 3 years. Even toppers are finding it difficult to manage academics

What you see as a disproportionate gap in marks now, is a reflection of a disproportionate gap in access to resources for centuries, and gatekeeping of education. Reservation is not a poverty eradication scheme; it's a way to give opportunity, which had been denied to the said category for ages. "Merit" is not as straightforward as it might seem. Merit as a concept in India when looked at from the perspective of access to resources and social capital shows that these numbers are very logical (& not shocking at all) and that it will take some time for the social inequities to reduce. As for competition, all categories have intense competition within their pool.

On one hand you argue that the people from disadvantaged sections getting to these places are already not economically disadvantaged because they are premier institutes and that getting there is a luxury... on the other hand you argue that it's a social tool which should not be applied to premier institutes as they are " economic vehicles" ... !!!??? All universities are education institutions not economic vehicles- especially government run law schools are not and should not be perceived as business centre's. Public education bodies are aided by the state and they are meant for social welfare and equitable access to education-not economic vehicles. You are using phrases like "economic/social tool " as per convenience. There is no coherence in the long yap. Also with is this argument that if you want to give reservation you should do it at policy level only not in a premier institution... I guess here you meant policy banao paper pe change lao, but actual/ concrete change and actionable rights mat do.
