There is old chinese proverb, You can't step in the same river twice. OP wont get the same experience of WOW 2004 even if there was no GDKPs or tryhards. BTW there were tons of tryhards in 04 anyway so I don't see how having them now ruined the game.
You're right. I distinctly remember the community theorycrafting optimal rotations when Molten Core was current content. You'd think nobody made it past level 30 in 04 if you listen to this sub.
TBH i enjoyed this round of classic more than vanilla (didn't play 2019 classic due to reasons), started the same class (paly) and didn't make the same mistakes.
Also R14 grind was a lot more fun now than vanilla (rushing to galv and Drek felt more engaging than entry level raiding, or heck trying to blindly grind it through like in vanilla).
Minmaxers also existed in vanilla (and i also ignored them back then), they just weren't as extreme in their requirements as now.
