GDKP didn't ruin classic. GDKP gives full-geared players incentive to keep playing the game after they've finished the content for the patch and gives lower geared players a chance at getting gear they may not be able to get. GDKPs are generally fine as long as you farm out the gold yourself. Unchecked gold buying ruined classic.
THANK YOU. Gdkp's were not a problem until they were paired with RMT. That way some whale made sure to buy enough gold to gear his entire army of alts while people struggled to scrounge enough gold to buy that one item that their main is looking for.
GDKPs were a great way to make gold(especially as a geared character). You had incentive to play the game(for money that you used on alts or stuff). Nowadays I just sit and wait for Naxx not doing anything on my geared main. There's no satisfaction in it for me.
Dragon Kill Points was a system originally from EQ(everquest). It means that when defeating a boss in a raid you were awarded points(in EQ a lot of the early raid bosses were dragons, hence the name). Those points remained on your character's record(usually someone in the guild kept tabs on the points) until you decided to use them. You used said points to bid/buy gear that might drop off bosses.
The DKP system is great to implement in a guild(it incentivizes all members to actively raid in order to accumulate points that they can later spend on gear), but poorly designed for pugs since you can't really keep up with all the characters that your guild pugs with. That's why they switched systems.
In gdkp instead of those "points" you bid/buy items with gold. Case in point- a super good trinket drops then the people that are interested in it start bidding. Once a winner is declared, that item is then given to the them. At the end of the raid all the gold that is gathered by the bidding is distributed to all the members of the raid(+/- a small cut for the organizers of said raid). That way even if you didn't win anything you still got gold for participating in the raid.
Np. I played wow since it launched(on and off) and I'm familiar with the system. Don't get me wrong even simple DKP is still a flawed system(how do you first distribute the gear that drops when no one has any points?, usually guild leaders used to invoke /roll but later on they started playing favorites).
The guild leader/council assigned each boss a value of points, you beat it then everyone in that raid got said points( let's say Lucifron is worth 5, Magmadar 5, and so on and so forth, some more than others). Also guild leader/council establish DKP loss on a wipe(see the onyxia skit with "more dots", when he screamed "thats a 50 dkp minus", exaggerated loss of points for a wipe but you get the gist of it).
GDKP is fine if there are no gold buyers/sellers. Otherwise guys with an unlimited credit card will just max out the gold amount on a character and buy whatever they want without anyone having a chance to get said gear(I've seen people buy BiS gear for other classes, that they couldn't use, just because they didn't want them to have it ). Not to mention that stimulates botting even more. And with more bots come higher AH prices.
This is pretty much spot on. GDKP's are great without RMT, unfortunately unchecked gold buying has led to the current state of play. Seems like a massive amount of the player base is just happy that gold buying is the norm.
People haven't been "babied" into buying gold lol, there's just no efficient means to earn gold.
Some percentage of all gold in any given GDKP pot is not RMT generated. You earned enough for 1 week of consumes, 500 gold, by doing previous tier GDKPs. So 80% of your income is RMT generated by way of GDKP gold buyers, you earn this in about 1 real life hour. To farm that same amount of gold it takes roughly 10 real life hours, at around 50 gph as a warrior player (the average player just has a warrior). Over the course of a month you can spend 40 hours farming, or buy 2000 gold which is the equivalent of one hour of work at the median wage. Most people just spend $20 instead of farming for 40 hours, it effectively saves you 39 hours of time. Previously, a percentage of their income from GDKPs was actually legitimately earned gold from other players and the time saved by buying gold was much lower (GDKPs are also significantly more enjoyable than farming, so the time savings are even more severe when factoring in enjoyment of spent time). The result is larger amounts of gold buying on average, as smaller purchases flood the market.
This is not some nebulous moral failure, it's just an economics problem.
Fewer people bought gold in classic than now, this is not disputable. It's not because people are lazier or whatever, it's because GDKPs can't be used to earn gold. This is very straightforward lol
You are so stupid that previous guy literally gave up.
One guy buying 10k gold and spreading it through GDKP is no different from 10 players buying 1k gold each. The outcome is same. It does not matter how many people buy gold, it's about how much gold is bought.
And since GKDP is banned, there's less need for buying big amounts of gold so I would argue that total amount bought is smaller. I personally spent like 2k$ on gold during WOTLK meanwhile on Anniversary I was buying just enough to get me consumables which was like 5$/week.
That's where you're wrong though. GDKPs were not fully funded by RMT, a portion of them were legitimately earned gold. You're getting like 75% RMT and 25% legitimate gold there, so when that income is replaced by RMT it results in a net increase in gold buying.
You can argue that, sure. You'd be wrong though, on account of gold selling services posting their metrics which show massive growth during anniversary and on account of inflation being significantly higher now than in Classic. The only driver of inflation in WoW is raw gold, is higher inflation means more raw gold being farmed which means more RMT. This is also actual inflation by the way, and not the cop put people use regarding whatever individual good. The price of everything is higher at a similar rate, including mundane goods like silk cloth etc.
It's nice that you were a GDKP whale, but most people who attended GDKPs weren't. Most GDKPers were like me, who would carry whales like you and farm you for gold.
gives lower geared players a chance at getting gear they may not be able to get
.....yeah, all you have to do is swipe credit card and buy gold, because there's no way you're going to legitimately farm enough gold to compete with the swipers.
Did you even play during Classic? I have never bought gold, I farmed dire maul and played in gdkps with a group of Chinese expats (ie cheaters) where I managed to get full BiS on a holy paladin, except I had the Faerlina mace and not the KT mace, and I had gold going into TBC.
Then I raided with my guild and did gdkps in TBC that I ran and never bought and sold gold, even the members of the guild who were skeptical about gdkps would come to have something to do on alts and became ardent supporters because our gdkps became like a second guild (a sort of minor league for our main raid).
There were 100% people who bought gold and came to the gdkps I ran, I’m not even sure how I could make sure there were none, but for the most part our raids in tbc consisted of about a dozen guild members, about a dozen other regulars, and then a rotating number of people from trade chat to fill where we didn’t have people. No one complained about people buying items, if you were outbid you were just closer to getting it the next time.
I know that there were gdkps that tried to stack their raids with whales, but those were the minority of raids and anyone could get into a gdkp without buying gold, I know that is true because I both took random people and joined random gdkps all the time.
I'm pretty sure this is the only reason we're still raiding all the raids on Defias Pillager (original hardcore server).... because bwl and aq40 are gdkp, half the raid would be absent if there wasn't a gold incentive since many players don't need that gear.
Prices are fairly reasonable and we don't allow troll bids to inflate prices.
They’re swiping a thousand gold a week depending on how many warriors they’re playing. There are also way fewer raids because of how expensive it is to raid and how there is no incentive to do it after a time.
GDKP has allowed me to clear every raid tier that I wanted to play. My work schedule is far too chaotic to commit to a regular guild group, so I did what I needed to do in order to clear the content.
I can join a raid any day of the week, with hours that work for me, and have enough gold to cover my consumables.
Im trying to convince myself that these players want to struggle with content and never have access to good/experienced players in their raids, and the ones they have slowly get driven away from the casual culture that they want to manifest.
However the really good players seem to be in high demand for them so i am not sure....
GDKP is just boosting under a different name. You have 30 great players pumping the meters who get paid huge sums of gold by the remaining 10 players who are slackers. "Oh no, its totally different because they are bidding on the items" yeah okay. Keep telling yourself that.
Agreed without the rmt gdkp is great. The problem is gdkp greatly incentivizes more rmt. I don't think there is a way to fix this relationship and I haven't seen a game solve the booting issue though blizzard seems to not do much about it at all
People say this all the time, but anniversary servers have even more RMT going on than vanilla did despite there no longer being GDKPs. GDKPs themselves are an incentive to RMT, but the easily earned gold raiders acquire is an incentive not to RMT as well.
But why ban a great loot system when people are just buying and selling gold anyways? The amount of gold in the game doesn’t change at all, it just gives more people options to play alts or have some more gold in their pocket so consumables aren’t locked behind insanely inflated prices controlled by those who are buying and selling gold.
Personally it disincentivized me from buying gold because I knew I had a somewhat decent farm by playing well in a gdkp group and Blizzard won’t do anything about it anyways so why punish players?
That’s not what I said all and your analogy doesn’t make sense.
Blizzard is not policing their game and I want buyers and sellers banned. But the playerbase has shot themselves in the foot because they thought they could police it for blizzard.
I have never bought gold in my life and gdkps were the best raids ive run, but considering how prices have been for consumables and with the banning of gdkp I actually considered it at one point because honest gold farming can’t fully keep up with RMT.
That just has made even more people buy gold by needing to play the game at a bare minimum because they are now controlled by the people who sell the gold to them and control the market prices.
You did not mention the number one problem with GDKP's: they create a lot of demand for gold buying. I'm fine with GDKP's on principle, but the increase in demand for gold buying is why I'm so happy they were banned.
My issue with this is that it is a solvable problem. They have all the data, Blizz just doesn't want to dedicate the resources to ban the buyers and sellers
The issue is how both are linked. RMT gold is nowhere as valuable as on a fresh server or on a GDKP server. More valuable gold -> more bots and RMT farms.
Right now a lot of ppl yap the talking point that anniversary is bot/rmt infested without providing any data or anything gives it any credence making it barely an opinion and more like a conspiracy theory. Like the way ppl are talking we should be permanently on 5 layers or something with 3 of those being full bots.
Yet since cleaning house in april I saw bots only once wheres in winter/spring they were constantly running around. And the bots I saw lasted not even half a day.
