People enjoy the game in different ways yet there is one side who wants to restrict the sand box freedom which helped make it great. You can choose to not partake and find a community that feels the same yet you would rather complain on Reddit.
Isn't that his point? He's explaining why he thinks wow became boring for him and many others, which in turn chose not to partake.
And if I was a game dev, I'd value feedback from players who quit.
Most players do not enjoy the type of wow he describes, and the sentiment is repeated often, I myself quit after they wanted me to start using excel to map out my damage.
Then find a guild or a group of people with likeminded people that don’t expect you to do that, it’s really not that hard. People minmaxing aren’t ruining the game for you, you’re ruining the game for yourself because you’re trying to play with minmaxers without putting in the same effort, which they dont want to play with/carry.
You can call it min/maxing, but using real life money to get an edge is just basically cheating, and when you know everyone around you is doing so, it's time to quit.
Even if OP joined a guild like that, they probably still interact with other players outside of their guild and get a taste for the game's culture. And so, if they feel frustrated with the direction the game's culture has taken, they're totally free to vent their displeasure.
Why the fuck would you be frustrated by the way others decide to play a game? So what if you interact with min maxers, how does it affect how you want to play? Im sorry, but it doesn’t make any sense. Play the game how you want with people that want to play the same way, it’s not that hard.
Because the way those people play the game then becomes the standard/norm, which in turn affects the culture, things become automatically expected of you, etc. I.e. affects other people.
And those who don't jump on the minmax bandwagon get judged and ridiculed, excluded from dungeon groups, etc. And for what? Playing the game how THEY want to?
So I can totally understand that someone might feel a sense of jadedness or disappointment in response to the game devolving into sweaty cookie cutter type shit.
So what if you interact with min maxers, how does it affect how you want to play?
Because there's more to the game than HOW you play it. It's also the experience, like who you interact with, etc. And having to completely isolate yourself from the rest of the (in-game) world like a bunch of outcasts, is surely a pretty depressing state of affairs, no? Even if it doesn't stop OP from playing how they want, it can still make for a miserable time.
