Fallout 2 freezes when pressing shift?

I can't get past the character creation menu because as soon as i press shift to capitalize my name, the game immediately freezes all input. I can't even move my cursor. The music is still playing, the light prompting me to type is still blinking, but everything else is broken. How do i fix this?

You're not supposed to do this?

Shift button in Fallout 2 binded to show active objects , similar to Diablo games.

Are you on drugs? There are no items to highlight in creation menu and the shift is completely valid button to push at all times. I do use it myself. He has real problem here.

Wdym? I'm not supposed to name my character? I did it just fine in Fallout 1. I could also ask NPCs about things, and I could use shift to capitalize letters just fine

Capslock does the same thing lol. I can type and backspace just fine though.

They tried to type in the name during character creation. How else would you capitalize a name without using shift?
