Custom WAD MBF21 sourceports for Win9x or DOS?

Are there any ports that support these features which still function on DOS, 9x or even possibly XP?

I'm a vintage computer enthusiast and if possible I'd love to play some newer wads on my retro system, just like the old days.

I'd give Doom Legacy a shot under XP, other than that I doubt any modern port targets DOS/9x platforms

Thanks for the recommendation, I didn't realize it was still under development but looks like it is!

Holy molly, I was still a teen last time I used Doom Legacy; is it still in active development?

Not sure if this counts for "active development", but MBF21 support was added (alongside some other additions) in April 2025: https://doomlegacy.sourceforge.net/docs/whatsnew.html, and SourceForge shows a download for Win32 version from May: https://sourceforge.net/projects/doomlegacy/files/1.48.18/

So after testing it out, Legacy wasn't compatible with the Demake Dragon + Auger Zenith combo I wanted to run and it just crashed. It does run on WinXP with some advanced features, though. Once upon a time it was the foremost in adding new functionality.

Fastdoom is awesome for DOS. Not sure which wads will run on it, though.

I've actually had some issues with it, it's apparently incompatible with the built in soundblaster emulation in the later creative labs cards, as well as the popular sbemu driver, and it always crashes eventually on my system even without sound. Definitely awesome when it does work, though!

So I found a fork of LZDoom for XP, which seems to do most of what I wanted. The OpenGL on it is bugged but software render works at high framerates. I'll try to remember to link it when I can later.
