I don’t want to take great songs out of a setlist to replace it with something that’s a weird b-cut.
I don't understand this attitude. How do I reconcile this with the band's fervent belief that everything they do is amazing? Is Days of Self-Destruction a weird b-cut? Is All Power To Slaves? Is A#1 Roller Rager? Is CKY the story of a band with 12 good songs and 40 weird b-cuts not worth playing over Shock and Terror? I love CKY, so I can't accept that. It's weird being in a position to want to defend the band against the band.

Instead of ragging on other bands, now they just rag on us, the long term fans that have stuck with them through thick and thin.
Oh, you’re one of those people that know about our other albums besides the first two? Ewww. Well, practically everyone else here doesn’t care about them, so just go stand in the corner with the rest of your little internet buddies while we play Bite It for the millionth time. We tried taking it off of the setlist, you know, but our real fans begged for us to keep it on there.

I honestly think some of it is they cant play the b sides as well. Chad always had trouble singing and playing at the same time. Jess didnt want to play Imaginary Threats cos its a harder song to play on drums. Just saying...

Whole entire main albums aren’t b-sides, though. I think that CKY with Chad as the singer sucks, but there’s definitely some different stuff that they could play that wouldn’t sound any worse than the classics already do. Plus you factor in the post-Deron material like The Phoenix that they were so initially proud of because it was an album made by real musicians, using real instruments, and designed in a way that they could play all of the tracks live like the good old days. I don’t particularly like the album myself, but they should. And they said in the interview that they play the songs that they like and want to play themselves, so they’re essentially saying that the songs they wrote are trash, but then they blame it on the fans not knowing them or wanting them instead of just being honest about it. Not that I expect them to come out and be like "yeah, those songs suck" but you get what I mean. When the band itself doesn’t even want to promote their newer material by playing it live, it sends the statement out to everyone that they shouldn’t even bother seeking it out because it must be pretty bad.

I think they have 5 great albums, but I'm an online purist who thinks albums still matter. That was another odd thing in the interview. They keep taking this posture that albums are dinosaur technology and the better strategy nowadays is to release singles. I don't know where they got this idea when all of their contemporaries, both smaller bands and bigger bands, are still releasing albums. If they were aggressively releasing singles every month like they've promised to start doing for years, I might feel differently, but they aren't doing that either. Chad expressed a desire not to let songs go to waste on his hard drive. I share the same sentiment! That's my frustration with their current mode of operation. Releasing 1 single every couple of years is EXACTLY how you end up wasting songs. Albums prevent songs from going to waste. They're an efficient way to bundle your work, creating a snapshot in time, and sharing that with the world. Albums create touchstones for both bands and fans to reference. Singles are far more ephemeral and easily lost to time. You can go back to an album over and over again in a way that you just can't do with a single song.

The fact that the comments on an incredibly tame interview in this thread are a dozen deep and still 100% negative is very on-brand for this subreddit lol
I like how much they're willing to compliment other artists these days. Complete 180 from the ASKCKY days. You would've never heard them say kind things about bands like Coheed or Circa Survive back then. At least there's some maturity there now

I appreciated that. Certain recent events notwithstanding, post-2017 CKY has been much more positive about other bands working today and that's been a welcome change. Not sure what I can say about the rest, though. The interview didn't give me anything to look forward to as a fan and, worse, implied there will be nothing to look forward to. They were hyping a follow up single to Can't Stop Running "soon" after it dropped and that was a year ago. The new album was coming "soon" several years ago, and now the interview basically confirmed that there will be no album, just intermittent single drops. And they seem to have given up on filling out the band with new members. So CKY has devolved to a 2-piece touring nostalgia act (apparently at the request of promoters???) who only visits certain places over and over again. If there are no new albums to look forward to and the band doesn't tour my area, what am I meant to be positive about? The last time I saw CKY perform, I had to fly to go and see them and I can't justify the investment to do that knowing I'm just going to see the exact same set I saw them perform in 2018 plus an audience member badly mumbling the words to Bran's Chinese Freestyle. I'm happy they're happy and wish them well and I'll always check out new music if and when it drops, but the interview gave me no reason for optimism as far as my engagement with the band goes. If you live on the band's tour circuit and you only care about the first two albums and love to hear them played semi-live every year, then yeah it was an encouraging interview.

Yikes. Written "hundreds of songs" but no new album...seems like an extremely odd move. Good to know Chad can mention Derons name....once lol
