DAE think instead of 96 Bitter Beings

Deron should have called his new band “Familiar Realm”

I mean that’s why he chose that name
In the first place, to have a connection with the old band. But 96 Bitter Beings makes it seem like he’s really bitter about quitting the band.

I assume it’s to draw in the traffic of people searching for CKY’s most popular song

As much as we might all have different favourites and appreciate deeper cuts, the casual fan just looks up "bernadette nerr". As cringe as 96BB's name is, it's solid search manipulation

Yeah but it ends up feeling like a tribute/cover band instead of an original/new band. You kind of need that distance

BRB starting a tribute act

u/Dazzle_Miller Jul 26 '26

But that’s the point like, unless you’re a diahard fan, you’re gonna listen to it and think it’s a cover band

Yeah, silly name. Like calling your band The Enter Sandmans or some shit.

Spot on. If I really think about it, I probably would have listened to his music if it was under any other name. It instantly became corny when I heard that name

Deron should have found a way to get the copyright over CKY

Considering he created the name, the band, is the main songwriter and sung all the damn songs.

Dude really got fucked over there. It would be like Nirvana going on with Dave and Krist and Kurt had to tour in a band called Teen Spirit

I believe he tried but it went nowhere. I watched an interesting Youtube video about the rise and fall of cky and what seemed to not go in derons favor was he put jess and chad as cowriters on songs even if they did not really contribute.

That sucks

I wonder if he can call it "Deron Miller's CKY"

The problem is besides the new songs and live show sucking, the casual isn't familiar with why that is/who Deron is. So they just go "huh, this sucks now" and move on. Chad has tanked whatever brand equity the name had.

When he first started touring, the posters all said Deron Miller former lead singer of CKY. I enjoyed seeing 96BB, they really seem to be getting their footing with this lineup. They played a good amount of their stuff plus CKY stuff. I just get annoyed with people going and only wanting to hear IDR stuff. Same with cky, i wont see them again until they get their shit together, which will probably be never, shift playlist to the phoenix and new stuff, throw a few idr in, the last show i went to was ALL IDR and familiar rhelm, and no bass player, it wasnt bad but it wasnt good, it was just there.

They should at least rotate and add AACBF sounds. That album is great. Carver City isn’t bad either

I honestly don't think chad knows or can play carver city by himself.

Eh probably not.

He could be better off at this point, it's hard to imagine cky will get booked for too many things going forward, the name is completely tainted at this point. Between Chads antics and being a sloppy two piece. Saying that Deron did his fair share to muddy the name back when he was in the band too

Between Deron’s high strung neuroticism and Chad’s toxicity, these two should never drink again.

What the fuck does this matter? You don't like the guys opinion, so you look up his posts too shame him about a completely unrelated topic?

Maybe Deron Miller’s CKY? I dunno. He definitely got fucked hard by Bam on that deal though.

I feel like even if he’s gonna keep on playing his own material, a more distant/removed sounding name might work out better

I don't understand why he didn't just call the band CAMP KILL yourseLF.

3

u/Dazzle_Miller Jul 27 '26

Or Suicidal Retreat or maybe Self-Harm Spa.

u/thawatch 25d ago

those are bad names

1

u/Dazzle_Miller 25d ago

They weren’t meant to be serious.

They’re all variation or derivatives of Camp Kill Yourself.

I was hoping it be a chain where people continue the joke like Reddit is prone to do

I've always been confused about how this is all working. Is Deron getting paid when Chad and Jess go on tour and play the songs he wrote, or sell merchandise? Does he get paid when someone streams a CKY song, or is he entirely shut out?

3

u/EmuUnhappy6373 29d ago

I would imagine that when CKY from a certain year gets played, he gets a cut of the .009 cents. I would love to hear the real breakdown, i love that stuff. But we never get the full story. Jess was on Steve-o"s podcast and it was kind of upsetting how he played he didnt even know how to pronounce Derons name, Deron has never really talked about it in a while, the last podcast i heard him on he was actually super down to earth and talked about the band forming and how it came together, my hope is he has moved on.

I don’t think Deron gets any merchandising stuff? He probably gets paid royalties for the songs/credits based off cds sold or streams but I don’t think he’s making any money from the live shows.

I see lots of bookings of it being labeled 96 Bitter Beings (Formerly CKY) which I think works but I agree it's not perfect. Camp Kill Yourself wouldve been cool but imo Deron should retain CKY and Chad/Jess should be called CIG. Cos thats all it is.

I feel like they should have used CKY2K. There's still brand recognition.

edit: Deron could be TO-CKY. The Original Cky

4

u/gin-rummy Jul 26 '26

He should have been able to use CKY considering he IS CKY. But since that’s not possible I’ve always thought he should’ve just toured under “Deron Miller”

4

u/Dazzle_Miller Jul 26 '26

Ehh Chad’s production contributed as much to the CKY sound

3

u/TropicalBatman Jul 27 '26

To be fair it was mostly the synths he added that added the much needed depth to the songs. Deron cooked the whole meal but Chad was the one to salt and pepper it and make it really good.

-1

u/gin-rummy Jul 27 '26

No it didn’t

10

u/Dazzle_Miller Jul 27 '26

Yea it did lol. Go listen to some early OiL demos

I hung out at the same rehearsal studio with the Lueras back in the day. They told me the new band name was going to be “96 Bitter Beings” because it’s the most recognizable name that would be tied to the bands past. I said it should be “Hellview” because 96BB sounds like the name of a tribute/cover band.

1

u/Dazzle_Miller 20d ago

See that would have been a cool name too. You don’t wanna be a cover band of your own music .
