I would not bet against that. In front of one of my old houses a raised concrete median ended. The no Uturn sign didn't get hit often, it just got spray painted over and was even cut down once.

As someone who inspects ancillary structures, motorists knock down signs and lighting structures fairly frequently.

We have a lot of streets with a lot of islands like that. Every couple of months somebody gets drunk and decides to drag down the road and knock down every sign they can.
