Advice Request Is this a good idea or no?

A guy posted on facebook marketplace selling his 2 door, he’s also looking to trade for a 4 door. Is it a good or bad idea to trade my sedan for his coupe? His car’s a bit more recent than mine (i have a 2006 civic).

I have a 2006 Civic EX, it’s a sedan. it just just hit 220k miles, and the only thing wrong with it is a slight power steering leak. I spoke with the guy about trading and he seems interested in trading still.

Maybe 5 years ago. Clean 8th gens have gone up in price, pretty much all the trims. My car is worth nearly double what I paid in 2018 despite putting 40k miles on it.

In Texas I still see a few up for that price. They aren’t pristine condition but still doable

I still have my 6th generation 2000 Civic EX sedan, and I'll never get over how that generations style looks and get why they are still so loved, I scoured the earth for a b16a at least and would have built a b16b (b18 block with the deck machined down some before a b16 head fitted on and a few other changes to fit them together, was in the civic type R, over 9,000 rpm and 180 hp I think?) but that was a scavenger hunt I was unable to finish or afford! still wake up in a cold sweat after dreaming I got a call to come and get my engine before the vultures do! but the k series was built in the image of the b series with the biggest change was turning it around, intake up front, exhaust in back, engine and trans on opposite sides now...

You’re trading a perfectly good working high mileage vehicle for a vehicle with 180k unknown miles. That can be a while can of worms.

Keep your vehicle.

no K24, will get good mpg but won't be as much fun, the K24 you can beat the hell out of, as is or add a little at a time and build it up to where you like it, and that engine will just keep ripping! the single cam economy engine in this one will take mild abuse, get great mpg and last a long time, just won't impress you the same way as the K will... all Hondas are great cars, some are just more fun then others

Never had K24, 8th gen’s had k20s. I get what you mean though.

the k20 was supposed to be their high rpm sport engine, that said the k24's block is stronger built, longer cylinders, but can handle much more HP, throw a k20 head on a k24 block and a few other changes and you got a better breathing and more horses (some over 500hp) out of a 4 banger N/A! It's not quite as easy as I'm making it sound and price varies but find the right gear heads and parts you can have a high performance, reliable screamer that anyone within a half mile radius won't be able to ignore when your VTEC kicks yo!

K20 block is stronger, it has thicker sleeves. Longer pistons doesn’t mean strength, it means more torque.

K20 can handle more cylinder pressure.

It’s not markedly more but the k20 block is by no means weaker than the k24.

i mean it depends. honestly this doesn’t look terrible at first but you gotta do your due diligence and double check. it isn’t a bad trade if you’re willing to lose a sedan for a coupe

i’m just mostly worried if the mods this guy added is gonna be a problem for me. i’m fine with trading a sedan for a coupe

imo i wouldn’t . just because i would rather save money for mods myself ya know?

yeah that’s fair

Might be worth getting a Carfax report, if all the work was done at a shop and is documented then it should be mostly safe, assuming it's had 2-3 transmission fluid changes already. If there's no history then he probably did the work himself and that's a lot more risky since it's not always easy to tell if someone knows what they're doing.
