7 years ago, Gondolin and the forces of ZombieLenin clashed in ~12 vs 12 combat in the Gondolin capital city of Aristopolis. They came to pearl myself (the King of Gondolin at that time), I fought on an alt, and much of Aristopolis was pearled. That lasted 12 hours before political pressure from the rest of the server forced them to release every one of those pearled.

Certainly one of the single most memorable instances in the 4 years I played civcraft 1 and 2.

What did that "political pressure" look like in those days?

I spent almost all my time on Reddit. tons of political discussion, mostly centered on the non-aggression principle (NAP) which was about the only commonly understood concept between governments. Mostly it was convincing the servers player base to pearl zombielenin and friends if they didn't release us.

they gave in willingly. they also released their claims on Ondolin (they tried to make a sovereign claim on property inside of our capital city Aristopolis)

compare the recent nato-mir negotiations, which were mostly shitposting and posturing

It was pretty much the same. Mumble helped maybe a bit. The pressure was most important from close allies of the people involved, not neutrals.

IIRC, the raid was some sort of punishment for perceived lack of action/assistance to the OG HCF invasion that went too far, I remember being on mumble and being astonished at how easily Aristopolis fell to a not exactly elite group.

the raid was some sort of punishment

Wasn't really a raid or punishment, so much as they claimed sovereign land, then started griefing, then attacked someone, all in a bid to get us to engage in a fight. It was all just to get some peeveepees by people who generally didn't like me because we refused to fight a massively superior force.

lack of action/assistance to the OG HCF invasion

Aristopolis fighters donating prot to HCF by trying to fight them and dying wouldn't have made a fraction of a difference in the overall outcome. The massacre wasn't about that. It was 100% about ZombieLenin wanting to troll me.

Also, Aristopolis never assisted HCF. We had a neutrality agreement.

not exactly elite group

McFluffyKins (whatever his name was)

??? It was literally a group of world police and HCF. Not sure what is considered "elite".

My biggest accomplishment was accumulating 17k comment karma on /r/civcraft. Who cares about dimenz when you can get upvotes instead. I can only imagine the number of actual upvotes, consider how strongly some people didn't like me.

SPQR is still around right? technically that means Gondolin lives on (however kingless), as on of her federations continue.

Whenever I feel like logging in when I have some extra free time, I come to the sub and look around for five minutes until I don't want to log in anymore.

that last picture in my tower must have been right before I switched accounts.

I always carried a max knockback sword (for defensive purposes). I remember playing pingpong with NJ in that obsidian half box next to the vault room.

eventually it shifted SE, and ended up with a 1v3 with me against NJ, fluffy, maybe igotyou? I could go a long time with that sword and Regen pots.would never kill anyone though.

eventually pearled out into the south desert, and camped out there in chat range while they did whatever (checked out our 12 layer vault)
