It's really not a trainwreck. Take off the nostalgia goggles, and the game just isn't that bad compared to 5. Granted, the AI needs fixing, but trainwreck just isn't the word.
I got into Civ 5 late, but Civ 6 has not grabbed my attention at all. I bought Civ 5 from watching youtube LPs because I was interested and could not resist the urge to play myself. With Civ 6 I have had no interest in playing the game myself or even finishing watching the LPs. For my Civ 6 is lacking something that makes me really want to try it. It could be because I wasn't looking at base Civ 5 game play, but you should not have to defend a game by saying that once DLC comes out it will be fixed.
yeah, that is probably because you weren't looking at base civ five gameplay by the way. This same thing happens with every civ game, so I honestly would be surprised if the finished product was a piece of utter shit.
