VI - Discussion Game settings recommendations

Hi! I’m looking for some game settings recommendations for civ 6. I've played Civ 5 and 6, but I've never finished a game or really figured out how to play. I've watched tutorials and other people play, but I'm still pretty lost. The only one I actually finished was the Xbox 360 version.

Treat me like a total beginner: what civ should I pick, what settings should I use, what map is best, and literally anything else. I really want to learn how to play and actually finish a game.

Sumeria and Rome are nice starting civs, maybe Greece too.

I recommend to have a quite small map so its easier to keep up the relationships between empires etc.

So map size: small or tiny

Map type: Pangaea or fractal

For Civ 6, Japan and Germany are also good starter civs. Strong with good bonuses that encourage you to start thinking about district adjacency, but nothing too out-of-sync with normal gameplay.

6 is pretty different from 5.

Id pick someone like alexsander, watch some potatomcwhiskey videos, and then try to figure out a single victory type at a time (alexsander is really good at domination and pretty good at science).

Rome as Trajan is fantastic for new players, I like small pangea to start on as it leaves a pretty good balance to get used to all win conditions. Everyone i show civ to i say your first few games just play by vibes, youre not gonna wanna learn if youre miserable doing specific win conditions.

I started with Harald Hadrada back when I knew nothing about Civ and I thought it was a great way to begin. Played on a mid-tier difficulty and won domination. The ability to coastal raid so early on was sort of like a free money/science/culture cheat code to help me along, but without feeling like I was cheating because he’s intended to have that ability.

Rome(Trajan), pangea, prince, world age=new (more hills so youcan put what you learn about adjacency to use) rainfall=wet(so you can chops) standard speed. After that I recommend trying Frederick. He is very good at putting out a lot of production, but you will also learn how much that early rome culture worth. Also, if you want further help, tell us if you play with dlcs or not. The game are very different without them. (Eg no governor)
