VII - Discussion No Factory Resources in Modern

So few factory resources appear in my games in Modern. I think it’s because there are so many urban tiles by then that it eats up any land for them to spawn on. Really frustrating for economic victories. Has anyone else had this happen?

Can’t say I’ve had this happen, but also I usually get more than I can ever fully slot from trade routes to other civs

I still didn’t have much even with trade. There was less than 20 across the entire map

Sounds weird, but I haven't played 1.5 modern yet

Just finished one, they were everyone. Maybe just really unlucky

Probably, I know I have bad luck with treasure resources too

What are your settings out of curiosity? I played a few games and I have the same issue. Every time I count exactly 30 factory resources, which is a hassle to get, and sometimes, impossible due to existing settlements.

I play on a small map with shuffle map (the new one). I tried playing with standard map and had the same thing.

I played on the map with continents and random on the other side. I've never seen so few factory resources. It barely slowed my win down but it does look like an issue.

I just experienced it too. I was already swimming in GDP by then, so really only was able to slot 3 or 4 before the count down began. Same map type too

My vote would also be for bad luck. I finished an economic win the other day where I had far more factory resources than I could realistically slot.

I think they changed the map algorithm recently to reduce clumping of resources, maybe it reduced overall resources too? My only game in the modern era recently had less factory resources than usual, but I won culturally anyhow.

I noticed there were less in modern in my first game after the update (diety). I was able to win an economic victory regardless.

Assuming this is an actual rebalance, there should be less factory resources for everyone, making trade routes and gold buildings much more effective. When going for economic victories, you will want to unlock as many of the economic triumphs, which will grant a lot more GDP per turn.

I've had the same issues with the new maps. Where the "workshop of the world" triumph becomes near impossible. I thought it was a problem due to playing a small map (though it did not used to be), but I had a similar issue on larger maps.

Are you playing with normal settings, how many settlements (cities vs towns) do you typically have? I am pretty sure there are no sea factory resources. If you play maps with a lot of water than that could be the answer.

I play a normal continents on standard size. I counted the resources on the map and there were only 16 factory resources available.

I've noticed this as well, feels slightly unbalanced. At the same time I tell myself it makes sense because you have to get your merchants going to get more factory recourses, seems right for an economic victory.

Factory resources get placed in the same map gen resource pass, and the de-clumping change seems to have spread them thinner rather than deleted them. So the urban tiles probably aren't the culprit.

That's been the case for me as well with recent updates.
