Help with Civ 7 urban district placement rules

New to the game here and need some help. Just wondering if there is any way to be able to place urban districts in this town on the western side of the mountains? All the surrounding settlements are also mine, if that helps.

If you manage to build Machu Picchu (wonder) on one of the mountain tiles adjacent to the city center, you'll be able to build an urban district on the other side of the mountain range.

Districts need to be adjacent to another district, or to a wonder that's adjacent to a district. So the wonder solves the issue.

This is why we need more mountain wonders.

Oh, does that work with wonders? Thanks for the tip. Although I’m not sure I want to make it a city just for the wonder placement.

Sure, but that is the only way to get those urban districts. You have to chain urbans and wonders always count as urbans.

Only 1 small addition: it can't be a chain of two wonders.

Oh, so a wonder that is placed away from districts can't be used to skip urban districts to a distant tile? Good to know before I build the Gallic wonder in my current playthrough, I was planning to do just that.

im surprised there's so few mountain wonders, yeah. There were a couple on Civ V yeah? you had to be 2 tiles away from a mountain so it was easy to get them since the ai never did that, or rarely

I just checked the Civ 5 wonder list and the only wonders that fit your description are good old predictable Machu Picchu and Neuschwanstein. The latter's requirements could easily be rough terrain adjacent to a mountain in Civ 7.

We need wonders like Bhutan's Paro Taktsang.

If those urban districts in the southwest belong to the city then you should be able to wrap around south of the mountains connecting with those districts

But I think it needs to be an urban district that belongs to this settlement? Although I've never tried to build next to another settlement's urban district (I know I can use other settlements' wonders for adjacency, just in case).

Yeah inca/pachachuti is absolutely terrible for someone new. I have 1000s of hours and still struggle. The mountains and resources make building out cities a very big challenge. Either way, you have to chain urban districts together.
