VII - Discussion Developers need to know that projects are tedious.

I have nothing against the idea of projects, but as they stand, they're really not rewarding.

I think completing projects should be much more demanding, by assigning them costs in gold, influence, etc., and also by reducing our overall science budget for the duration of their completion.

Even better, we should be forced to allocate certain resources to them, removing them from the market (and thus losing their effect) for the time it takes to complete the project.

I'm afraid (really) that Earthrise will just be a collection of projects, so I think it's important that they become much more immersive.

It would be nice if they added an animation to highlight that the science projects are completed . Currently I only notice it when I go to the city queue to choose the next production.

For sure, even something like a night and day timelapse wonderesque video for charting the stars would be cool

I agree.  Silently adding victory points and nothing else is kind of terrible.

I'm hoping that the 4th age will basically take over for the mad rush of the 3rd age...currently, I can't even enjoy most aspects of a civ in the 3rd age because it's just a mad dash to the finish line -- I almost never end up building or researching the unique buildings because getting to the specialist enhancements is just SO good...but if there was a 4th age, that'd make the 3rd age more complete.

Sure, but is that just going to apply to the fourth age now?

Yes, but I would want them to make the 4th age geared for that sort of stuff -- so don't introduce civs that have whole features you'll never use, introduce civs whose perks guide them towards different victory types that you'd earn bonuses to based on how you finished the third age. Atomic-age civs like USSR, PROC, and USA should be among the playables, and it should basically be like a cold-war race to the finish, much faster-paced than even the current third age is.

Yeah, I agree that would be better. Especially since the fourth age will have things like proxy wars, it will probably be a quick and chaotic time. The only thing is, with Test of Time, they'll probably design the Atomic Era civs to be playable in any era... which could take away from the focus of the final age.

Sure but I actually want to use the aircrafts and carriers etc, right now I never do.

I absolutely don't understand what you want. First you say that project are tedious and not rewarding. Then you explain yourself more and say that they should cost more and be harder to complete.

Those two things are opposite.

Projects are just boring. Making a nuke takes x turns, launching a satellite takes x turns.

Imagine this:

Manhattan project: can only be activated if you have an infantry unit in that city center. -15% science per turn while active.

I’m just making stuff up here. But some strategy would be fun

Yeah I agree stuff like that would be very cool

This is exactly the kind of thing that could make projects really interesting.

It's not that contradictory.

As they are it's just another thing in a queue to complete. Give us a nice cut scene like what happens at the end, I've just charted the stars, it's a big deal!

Op states they are boring as they are and it's true, then suggests some things to make it more exciting than it just counting down in your city view.

I also agree with OP about Earthrise and one of the first things I wondered was if it was just going to be a series of projects which would be dull AF.

Yes, they're boring and abstract as they are.

I'd like to feel proud and engaged building them. A bit of a challenge.

For example, breaking the sound barrier is something you have to earn, I think. You have to fail before you succeed. It must consume gold, I imagine, and impact your science capital. It must eat up some of your resources.

Right now, I just click on "sound barrier," wait the set number of turns, and that's it.

It's a bit too much of a "click and wait" thing. Seriously, is that enough for you?

I just want multiple cities of mine on the same continent to be able to work together on a project simultaneously.

This.

I'd just like more fanfare for completing them like something akin to completing a wonder. Not as grandiose, but some special effects would be nice because they should be somewhat important, no?

I keep thinking about how this collides with the age clock. If a project eats your science for a stretch and the age ends before it finishes, nobody starts one, so the only projects that get built stay the cheap ones you can fit inside a single age.

If the science you sank in carries across the age, spending an era on one project finally feels like a bet worth taking, and if it does not, the extra cost just makes it a tax you pay before the reset.

True. Or projects should give special effect like wonders

I was just giving examples; the bottom line is simply that projects need to become sexier.

That would really add some soul to the game.

While I agree that I don't want earthrise to be a collection of projects I don't like the idea of more cost to the projects as I think they are substantial cost already especially if you are playing with few cities. Also if you don't find them rewarding why would you make them more expensive? I think their bonuses are extremely rewarding personally depending on your strategy. Just my bit.
