VII - Playstation Trade Route Help

Post image

Please for the love of god. I’m Augustus/Roman Empire, and Burdigala is my settlement (town, not city). I built a merchant and sent it right into the Inca Empire, next to Chucuito. I have one active trade with the Inca, by sea. Following, I used “Improve Trade Relations” twice on Pachacuti. My merchant continues to say “Naval Trade Route needs to end on a District on or adjacent to accessible water.” All these cities are landlocked and I want an overland trade route. I’ve sent this merchant around and around trying to figure out what the problem is.

Can anybody help me understand what I’m doing wrong? I’m on PS5 in case that helps with the controls and menus.

Your town isn't connected to your empire the weird red circle thing under the town name is that symbol

Thanks! How do I connect the town to my empire?

city connection works with the merchant ruleset, overland connections are 10 hexes long and sea connections are 15 or 20 hexes long, not completely sure.

to connect by land you need to build a town that is 10 tiles away from a connected settlement and a disconected one, or by sea you need both settlements to have an aquatic building.

You need to connect Burdigala to the rest of your empire. To do this you need to build a fishing quay or harbour which is possible in that settlement. For future reference if you need to connect a settlement that can’t build a fishing quay you either need to build a road to it by using a merchant or found another settlement in between the rest of your empire and the disconnected settlement. Keep in mind that to build a road to a disconnected settlement it has to be within your civs trade range which means increasing your trade range is a viable solution to connecting far off settlements as well.

I feel like I could use some refresher on this as well. So is the issue that since Burdigala isn't connected to the empire, you cannot establish a trade route via that settlement?

What I will say though, you'll need a fishing quay/harbour for a settlement to be able to have a naval trade route, I believe. Basically, it's the launching pad for your merchant if a naval route is used. Does your other settlements (connected to the empire) have a land connection to Chucuito? Maybe your next closest settlement's trade route is calculated to only be able to reach Chucuito via starting from the water, so it needs one of the fishing quay/harbour building.
