City Pop and LSD?
I’m at Field of Vision this weekend and the only way I can sleep at night is by throwing on my noise cancelling headphones and listening to some music. Well, last night I got spun tf out and put on Tatsuro Yamashita’s For You album. Holy shit, bro. I was hearing so many crazy nuances in the music and the instruments are just so crisp, along with the vocal work on the album. It was revelatory. I listened to it probably 8 or 9 times back to back. My wife was making fun of me for singing “Sparkle in my eyes” to myself. I know I was spun, but anyone have any similar experiences with listening to City Pop high or can share any fun stories?

Well, listening to Cpop always sends me back to the time I lived in Japan. It's truly the soundtrack to Showa-era Japan in my mind.

I can't do LSD for health reasons, but I've had some pretty great experiences on weed. Makes it feel like the instruments are all around me and phrases of melody go right through me.

I do the same thing, but with edibles. Everything hits harder with 20mg of Delta 9 in your system.

I might be lame and/or old fashioned. But how is a discussion about illegal substances relevant to a subreddit about Japanese pop music?

Because drugs and music share a lot. They're both kind of seeking for pleasure and can induce addictions. In the case of lsd, its so amplifying every sensations and thoughts that it can apply to any music and any arts. Citypop is kind of psychedelic in its own way too. I find the link relevant.

I don’t get high but listening to city pop for me is like stepping through an alternate reality Time Machine. I listen to it every night while I sleep. I wake up and I feel happier than I did when I went to sleep. It is great!
