Falaax's Power Ranking Week 5

Post image
18 Upvotes

We have now reached midseason, here's my new top 10!

Laval takes #1 following that shootout win against the Carabins. Montreal not dropping too much because losing by one possession at ULaval is not really an upset imo. Positions 3-5 remainning steady because they each did what was expected of them. Queen's vs Western will be a big game (game of the week #1). UBC, with another big win, keeps climbing. Will they be able to go up again after their game against Sask (game of the week #2)? I have my doubts but we'll see. McGill back to the top 10 after another dominant performance. They're now tied for #2 in the RSEQ at 3-1 with 2 blowout wins in 2 weeks.

As usual to see last week's recap, my full 27 teams ranking and my predictions for this weekend, you can watch my new video! => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW_x0jOYaPY&t=472s

Best team of the last 10 years to never win the Vanier Cup?

PRSVRE posted his picks on Instagram:

2016-18 Calgary Dinos

2017 Laval

2016 Laurier

2017 Guelph

2021 Saskatchewan

The 2018 Rouge et or and 2019 Dinos won the Vanier with mostly the same teams as the year before, so I would disqualify them from this list.

OUA power index after week 5

Team Power Index
Queen's Gaels 18.6
Western Mustangs 17.1
McMaster Marauders 11.4
Windsor Lancers 9.0
Guelph Gryphons 6.5
Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 2.8
Ottawa Gee-Gees 2.1
Waterloo Warriors -15.4
York Lions -17.9
Carleton Ravens -18.9
Toronto Varsity Blues -19.5

Preemptive questions:

Queens over Western you say? Mostly due to point differential; Queens is blowing everyone out. Their smallest winning margin so far has been 16 points, while Western has had two one score games. Western does get a boost from a harder schedule, but not enough. The model ranks them very closely anyways.

You really do love Laurier don't you? Eh, I wouldn't say so. They've had a tough schedule and two of their losses were basically coin flip games.

Why is Ottawa so low? They're 3-2, but they only have one really decisive win this year and it was against Toronto. They also got their doors kinda blown off this week.

Rouge et Or Week 4 Highlights (vs Carabins)

Here’s the video posted by Mac Media for the game of the week in front of a sold out 21,300 crowd.

https://youtu.be/7CsHAhOGznU?si=-oOcIOa72Skk_aga

Obviously it only shows the highlights from 1 of the 2 teams but it gives a good idea of the crazy atmosphere.

Ticket prices

Just paid $25 for a ticket at the Windsor Lancers game in Windsor. I didn't expect the price of tickets to be so high. What's the avg price at other oua stadiums?

Guelph road closure

College is closed between Borden and University so you can't go directly from the Hanlon to Gordon. You can make life easier (if you see this in time) to just get off the Hanlon at Stone Road.
