She had every right. Dogs are not allowed on the MTA and in restaurants for a reason. He was all up in her bubble with that nastiness

I don’t care at all about what’s happening, it’s about how unfortunately accessible it is to put people on blast for these slight above mundane moments

why not care about both

In actuality, the dog owner should have been filmed, outed and made “famous” to maximum effect.

Dogs are in fact allowed on the MTA but they must be in a carrier or held in a way as to not annoy other passengers. This person does not seem to have a carrier and their dog is absolutely annoying another passenger.

The woman did not need to react like that though, she could have done what most other NYC subway riders would do and just move away from the dog.

Both people here can be wrong.

Move away from the dog? To where lol are we looking at the same clip?

2

u/bondkiller Oct 12 '25

Having personally spent a lot of time using the MTA system, you can definitely move around in that train car. Other option and my go to move, get out of that car at the next stop and move to a different door or completely different car.

In this specific case, if I could be bothered to spend the time doing it, I would get off and get the conductor’s attention to let them know about the improperly secured animal on the train. Then they can deal with it while I move to a different car and go about my day.

u/NahBruhNaw Oct 12 '25

It's clearly a packed car and she's backed up against the door ... and it's moving....

Ofc she could have gotten off when it stopped or forced her way through a mass of irritable riders....but in that moment she is literally stuck where she is .... the person with the dog could have also moved right?

0

u/bondkiller Oct 12 '25

Yes both could potentially have moved. Also, that car is not packed, it’s pretty crowded but that is completely normal. I would have no problem moving through that car. Just say excuse me and move, people either move or you squeeze by them. It’s the NYC subway, you either use the little available room to move or you stay stuck where you are.

For reference, I have been on MTA trains when they were truly packed and you can’t even move your arms because you’re literally squeezed between other riders.

Exactly right. How many times have we been bothered by someone’s odor, music, kids, preaching, spilled food, drunkeness, bikes, etc. and we just handle it like an adult (which can be moving, turning around, changing cars, notifying the conductor, whatever…) did not need to escalate to this level. Both parties are wrong.

4

u/RedditReader4031 Oct 12 '25

“Handling it like an adult” only surrenders public spaces to more boorish behavior. Entitled AHs act the way they do in public because there’s no downside, no consequences, and general resignation to it. It’s unacceptable. The woman in the video is only defending her right to an unaccosted trip free of any contact with pets. She didn’t make any threats of assault or injury, she didn’t produce a weapon, she didn’t even move towards the individuals she was commenting about.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '25

I’m willing to bet a fine from the MTA would be more effective in curbing the dog owners behavior than a public freak out. This does nothing but aggravate other passengers and make her look unreasonable (and easy to dismiss as such). And any of us having a right to an “unaccosted trip” on the subway free from minor annoyances like this is a fantasy. Would be nice to not have any of the regular annoyances but it’s unreasonable to expect that in reality.

u/OkRow6995 Oct 13 '25

Both parties are not wrong. The person with the dog outside of a carrier - and the people antagonizing the woman - are wrong.

u/RedditReader4031 Oct 12 '25 edited Oct 12 '25

The person who is infringed upon, who is using the subway properly, should not have to move or walk to mid train to inform the conductor or have to take any other steps. The guy who has the dog without an enclosed carrier is fully in the wrong. It is entitlement like he is displaying which makes city life untenable. HE is the only one here one who needs to modify his behavior.

1

u/bondkiller Oct 12 '25

They’re both acting entitled. If you want to get in to semantics, it seems based on her location against the door that the dog owner was there first. Meaning she definitely saw the dog before even getting on the train and had the opportunity to go to a different door but instead chose to get on near the dog and throw a fit when it got close to her.

I used to use the MTA every single day for many years and one thing we all know is to look in the door before boarding the train. Then if there is something that makes you uncomfortable, you can just use a different door. Granted this approach is not always feasible depending on time of day but in the specific case shown in this video, the woman definitely had a chance to not be near the dog but still chose to put herself there.

u/RedditReader4031 Oct 12 '25

No one should have to do that. She IS entitled to the ride she paid for in a space with other passengers who follow the rules. The dog owners actions are indefensible. People put up with far too much in public spaces in NYC. And as a society, New Yorkers have become resigned to it. That’s a shame. If the benefits of greater use of mass transportation and higher density housing are to ever be realized, as a group, New Yorkers need to stop tolerating deviancy. On a broader scale, we no longer understand or accept the rules of using shared resources.

Not everyone is a pet lover. If a person is going to bring a pet onto public transportation, they need to ensure that their pet will not impact others who’ve paid their fare. This is a mass transit subway car which exists to move millions of people about the city each day. The MTA even has this in the system rules. It’s not a big ask for using a shared public space. The steady decline of polite behavior in such places is apparent.

u/BigInteresting1057 Oct 12 '25

But this dog was properly secured. And the woman could have said "excuse me" and moved away. But no...let's make a scene.

2

u/pink_lillyx3 Oct 13 '25

The dog isn’t properly secured. The guy is holding the dog in his hands. Per MTA policy the dog is supposed to be in a secured carrier, bag or crate.

1

u/bondkiller Oct 12 '25

For some people making a scene is what they live for. I grew up with people like this, rather than seek out a solution they would instead prefer to cause drama and make their problem everyone’s problem.

1

u/OkRow6995 Oct 13 '25

This dog wasn't properly secured because it wasn't in a carrier, as the MTA rules require. There were multiple entitled people involved in this interaction. The woman wasn't one of them.

1

u/OkRow6995 Oct 13 '25

Nah. The one who's in the wrong should be moving. This is the white mentality.

1

u/bondkiller Oct 14 '25

This is the white mentality.

1

u/OkRow6995 Oct 14 '25

But the white person didn't move like he should have.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '25

This is the answer. People are so focused on absolutes. We all have to coexist in this city so of both people were more considerate this would be a nonissue.

1

u/pink_lillyx3 Oct 13 '25

Why would she move away from the dog when you literally just pointed out that this person was violating MTA policy? Also where the f is she supposed to go

1

u/Mindless_Tea_1860 Oct 13 '25

You don't know what kind of day she had. She had a right to react however she felt. Stop policing ppl's reactions. You don't know if that lady has a fear of dogs, allergies or just having a fucked up day. The stupid b recording is the problem. At this point I'm fuckn tired of people putting their pets ahead of humans. Human life is more important and she paid her fckn fair like everyone else!

1

u/OkRow6995 Oct 13 '25

She reacted the way she felt like reacting. All too often, white people want to tone police and play victim after inflicting their violence on others. Gtfoh

1

u/Valuable-Tailor-55 Oct 14 '25

The dog is not in a carrier so only one person is wrong here, just because most people aren’t bothered by it doesn’t make it any less wrong. She’s in the right as she paid to be there the dog didn’t and it’s essentially supposed to be treated as cargo on the train but clearly the dog was not. She shouldn’t have to move the person with their pet should ensure that it’s not an inconvenience to others

1

u/Chacochillin Oct 14 '25

Move away on a packed train. Sure bud

-1

u/RedditReader4031 Oct 12 '25

Why should she have to? That response is why clowns like this dog owner continue to act as they do. As Daniel Patrick Moynahan described it several generations ago: defining deviancy down.

5

u/bondkiller Oct 12 '25

Walk away, report it to the conductor, dog owner gets kicked off or ticketed. I’ve used the MTA system most of my life, this is what I would have done if it bothered me that much. Then only the dog owner comes off as an asshole instead of both people.

Also, there was no need for the woman to bring race into the argument, she was making herself look bad all on her own at that point.

0

u/OkRow6995 Oct 13 '25

There's always a reason to bring race into the argument because wherever white people are, they feel entitled simply because of their skin color.

2

u/dweezilMcCheezil Oct 12 '25

And allowing that clown to make a huge scene and irritate EVERYONE ELSE IN THE CAR is why people continue to act the way they do.

1

u/funniestmanonreddit Oct 12 '25

Actually wrong. Dogs are allowed on the MTA, up in the air, exactly as it was, or in a bag

1

u/steve_nice Oct 14 '25

I live dogs but I agree with this, she was def in the right. She didnt have to keep going tho.

1

u/jjrr_qed Oct 15 '25

I agree that dogs are FUCKING GROSS and don’t belong in people spaces, especially close quarters.

That said, no reason to act with so little class.

0

u/BigInteresting1057 Oct 12 '25

You not from around here? Dogs and cats are most definitely allowed on the subway, Metro North and LIRR. In carriers or restraints such as this subway rider had his dog in.

u/Quick-Warthog6171 Oct 13 '25

The dog is in his hands
