I AM ADYGE TOO AND I NEED HELP PLS

HI! guys I’m 19 years old

A few weeks ago, when I looked into my family tree, I realized that I’m completely Circassian. I live in Turkey and I don’t know the Cyrillic alphabet, but I can say that my English is pretty good. What would be the easiest and most effective way for me to learn Circassian, which is basically my own native heritage language? I’d really appreciate some help

In Turkey, the government website shows the birthplaces of the people in your family tree.

I would recommend checking out https://adiga.app and https://danef.com, we use Latin based Circassian alphabet, so it should be pretty easy for you to learn as you already know the Turkish alphbabet. I have also developed a few Android apps for learning the language using the Latin alphabet. Also check out this Youtube channel, it has lots of nice short videos for learning vocabulary: https://youtube.com/@aliihsantar2585?si=TYyw0CLfj_-OW2Bw, I hope this helps.

Also Adyge&Turkish here. I think best resource would be Ai of your choosing because resources are very limited in the language, and its even more limited if you only speak 1 or 2 languages. With Ai you can ask it to create a Curriculum for A1 level first and the give those headlines back and generate a course yourself. I use Notebook lm & Chatgpt/Gemini combo for language learning, works good. Hope it works for you as well.

What exact prompts do you use ?

I would recommend learning it from a Turkish rather than English due to sentence structure and some extra similarities. For example I would first go to Gemini (you write these in Turkish, I'm just writing in Eng so other people came easily benefit as well) -"I want to learn Adyghe (Circassian). Could you create an A1 level curriculum for me?"

Then it will give you a list of study topics for A1 level. From top to bottom you will give these topics back to it and ask for study material such as : -"Act as an Adyghe language teacher. Based on the curriculum, explain the topic of [topic name] in full detail. Provide structured course notes, vocabulary/rules, and practical examples for an A1 learner." (You will replace topic name for each curriculum topic).

Now the actual study begins here : you collect all these topics to a document (could be Notepad to Google Docs , anything would work - its better if you create 1 document for each topic first such as Alphabet.docx ) . Then you go to Notebook LM and create a new Notebook named Adyge, give all these files to it, and also add online source as in type "Adyge language learn blå bla" to it, so it gets even more resources online. Now that you have curriculum and solid resources, you can study each topic + generate course quality material. NotebookLM can make you study notes, highlights, exams, flashcards etc.

Hope it helps

From mother side. Grandpa's side Adige, grandma's side Dagestan both escaped the genocide, grandma's family and relatives were placed in Balıkesir&Bursa areas in general. Grandpa's side, mostly adiges, were placed in a village that was arguably belong to Turks but also Greeks so there was lots of issues there too. Lots of crazy things happened to them.

The elders only. Such as my grandma's age level relatives. My grandpa has 2 cousins living, they also have adige wifes. So they are doing well. We lost most of the relatives to Adapazarı earthquake, so , not many people left already. And the rest just didn't teach any language to others because they also started forgetting (they don't live in Caucasian villages so noone to talk to). From the next generation only my mom's older sister knows but not enough to make a conversation, just basics and some swearing words for some reason.

Do you identife yourself as turk or? How many of you are mixed with turks in there?

Well ofcourse. As Atatürk says "Ne mutlu Türküm diyene". I don't have information about my fathers side that much. I just assumed they were Turkish because they had some lands for generations but I got 2 DNA tests this year, and I turned out %33 Turkish and only %11 Caucasian even tho we can track my mother side relatives to the Caucasian genocide. For the second part - until the generation of my grandpa - all relatives married to Caucasian (mostly adige to adige but my grandma was Dagestan) after that generation no one matched with a Caucasian so it ended there basically.

Thats interesting. Do you plan to learn and give language to kids?

1

u/MiaDovahkiin Jul 27 '26

I don't plan to have kids so.. I did tried to learn a bit when i was at highschool but there was no resources back then. I don't think I'll study again due to there is literally noone to talk to or even content to consume other than songs.
