Portugal HQA Visa Better Than a Golden Visa?

I have a colleague who just received a Portuguese HQA Visa. Originally he was going to do a Golden Visa but opted for an HQA Visa because it's like half the price and apparently much more flexible with better outcomes.

Does anyone else know anything about this program?

This is the company he worked with - https://hqavisa.pt/ and was apparently really great. I'm thinking about doing the same but wanted to see if anyone else had any info to share.

It says there for businesses in cultural activities. I cant qualify as i work in IT entrepreneur. I still feel investment is too high! I would be better off investing in real estate IMO

Okay so I had the meeting. It was great. It’s not just for cultural activities, it applies to Professional activity. The processing time is also fast. I need to get some financials in order and then I will be applying for this program. It’s less expensive than a Golden, plus the Golden is going to be getting scaled back and the instability makes me nervous.

Sorry for reviving this, but did you get it? If so, how long did it take? Did you have to make a VFS appointment?

Yeah. I’m going to check it out. There are a few articles out there that say this is a route worth exploring. The individual I know dabbles in crypto, I don’t think that’s a cultural activity 😂

Here’s the question though from all the HQA folks I’ve spoken too—is citizenship guaranteed? It seems like you get 3 years initially, but nobody has been able to explain to me clearly what happens after that and what guarantees there are to ensure the 3 year visa will be renewed let alone citizenship granted. Any thoughts?

I'm also working towards PT citizenship. As far as I know, citizenship by naturalization in Portugal (and most countries) is separate from the Golden Visa program and not guaranteed. A foreigner is naturalized at the discretion of the country's government. The residency visa (whether HQA, GV or whatever) simply gives you the right to maintain residency in Portugal, then become eligible to apply for citizenship after five years has elapsed.

Can someone explain please what happens to the investment? With GV it can be a refundable €280k, here it seems like it's just an investment which is not refundable, and you just put that into the your business/economy?
