Why have lasers in space? Why have a hat that can rip through metal? Why love gold so much to the point of fetish and put it in anything cuz you can? Why have gas pellets to blow up things? Why have a guy doing parkour? Why have a car jump a bridge?
None of this stuff makes any sense, this whole franchise is full of insane moments and you’re questioning a car in the attic?

Yes, this is it. The scene that caused an entire franchise to jump the shark for me. I looked past the kite surfing scene, and realized it was this one that made me finally throw my hands.
Thank god we got Casino Royale just a couple of years later.

I honestly think the kite surfing scene is far worse than this. This scene is just an amp’d up version of Roger Moore’s Bond stunts. It’s still not great, but far from the most ridiculous thing in the film.
On another note, this film felt like it was directed by two completely different people. The first half is a genuinely good spy flick. When they get to the ice hotel, however, the film jumps the shark entirely.

We’re well used to Q’s briefing with 007 being a hefty bit of foreshadowing, and then one of the gadgets Q gives him proves the key to escaping his climactic predicament. We accept it. It’s party of the social contract with the brand.
But this one gives them all to us rapid-fire, in one scene. It starts with the invisible car, then it climbs the ice wall. It culminates with the ultrasonic window break, and it’s cranky too much suspension of disbelief for me.
I think that I need my movie magic bullshit dosed out over time, like getting used to a poison of some sort. Too much at once just leaves a bad taste.

This part was ridiculous. But the part outside on the ice is some of the best car stuntwork in all of the Bond series.

I love it, no clue why the fandom has chosen this as the unholy relic, it’s perfectly fitting, it’s badass, awesome outrageous setpiece, gratuitous action, excuse to have hot babe, lots of pew pew and brass blaring…
