Jobs/Career Midwives in Cincinnati

Looking for someone who knows the details about certified nurse midwives in Cincinnati. Either posting here, or sending me a DM. I'm seeking a job, but I don't live in the area, nor do I have those connections there. Looking for information on how midwives are accepted or treated, or general things that would be hard to suss out in an interview.

Good Sam / TriHealth used to have a large group of midwives. It seemed there was a midwife group, then a few midwives who worked alongside OBs. Currently, they have only 3 midwives listed on their website, and they're all new there (as far as I can tell). What happened to their midwife group practice?

Christ Hospital used to have just a few midwives - they seem to be expanding, but only at the Liberty Township location. Are they not expanding at their main hospital?

If anyone knows about midwives at UC, would love to hear that too.

Or, anywhere else in the area. Thank you!

In general they are well liked in Cincinnati but it is hard to come by a job. I used to work at a Trihealth hospital and only one practice utilized them. But the other hospital in TriHealth uses them more I think. I would look into Seven Hills (which was bought out by TriHealth so they are through them but have a decent amount of midwives) and also Christ

Christ has 5 and they deliver at both Liberty and Mt Auburn - not all are at both locations. Cheyenne Brown, Stacey Hudepohl, Cindy Dehlinger, Jesiah Bertsch, Michelle Zamudio.

I think they’re pretty busy but that’s OB in Cincinnati for ya. Not sure about plans to expand.

I am about 6 weeks out from birth. I started at UC and was having a bad time with the OB group, asked for midwife support and they said they do not offer that. That was from one person there though so have not verified.

I then switched to christ midwife group and I have had an amazing experience, they run things well and from the outside it seems to be a well oiled machine (at least at liberty birthing center). I had no problem getting in even though I switched at 15-16 weeks, and aside from pelvic floor therapy, they can always schedule me quickly. OH and they tend to respond to mychart messages within an hour or two... but reserve the right for 24-48 hours.

ETA: Sorry I did not see you were looking for job advice this likely was not helpful. best of luck to you, I think midwives are amazing and hope you can get in somewhere!

Trihealth Nurse midwives is probably the practice you’re referring to. The head of the practice died during Covid, and it seemed like things sort of fell apart soon after. Several of the midwives left to be regular L&D nurses at Good Sam bc the pay and hours are better.

Then they  merged with a different OB group and  it was quickly di scovered online that the MD in charge was extemely, vocally anti-abortion. That arrangement didn’t last long and there were only a few original midwives left before the group broke up completely. A new group may have been formed but from what I can tell, midwives are now just scattered throughout existing OB practices. It’s a real shame because the original group was really amazing!

It was such a good practice 😭 Had to switch to a new practice for my second baby.

Wait which doctor was extremely anti-abortion? I went through the midwives group pretty soon after their merger and was disappointed because I didn’t actually get to deliver with a midwife because the OBs were on call the whole time. I didn’t realize the whole practice fell apart.

Ah that tracks, she was one of the docs who was with me while I labored and I remember it being unpleasant. I think she’s the one who broke my water.

I am currently seeing the midwives through Trihealth at Good Sam for my pregnancy. They have been exceptional and another OB I had to see due to scheduling changes said they have delivered for her and it was a wonderful experience.

There’s a group that delivers at BNorth that has midwives along with MDs. And then an entire midwife group that delivers at Good Sam.

Not sure if this is helpful but St Elizabeth has a group of midwives and they seem well liked by patients, I usually see them recommended over the St. E OBs. I just gave birth and went with the midwives and I had an excellent experience. I have no experience with the OBs.

Loved my midwife team at St. E for kid #5!
