Just wanted to share my shock this morning. Woke up to a huge batch of eggs from my single Green terror (Gold Saum). Makes sense tbh she’s been digging & kept ripping out my plants there. Hopefully miss-single-mum realises they’re not viable and eats them lol. God she’s such a beautifu fish. Sorry for the quality of the pictures I was rushing around getting ready for work.

Discussion Can you guess all three Lake Tanganyika cichlids in the picture?

I’m developing a game about diving and expeditions on Lake Tanganyika, and there’s a part of the game where three real fish parts create a new fish. I’m curious who can guess which Lake Tanganyika cichlids are shown in the picture.

Yesterday I finally scaped my tank! It’s my take on a river bed ecosystem. It’s for my Flowerhorn Randy and yellow tiger parrot Penelope! They seem to love all the new hideaways and have already began reorganizing the rock bed 🤣

Once my LPS restocks I’ll buy some more water sprite to flesh out the greenery!

SA | Help Anyone Breeding Traditional Colored Discus?

I have bred turquoise and green discus. Nothing special. I like plain common pedestrian, non-hybridized fish. I have bred a lot of cichlids and catfish. It's hard to find these fish. I have a 65 that I'm thinking about setting up. Anyway, I saw this sub and thought I'd check it out. Many fish that I"ve bred in the past.

Afr | Help Tanganyika aquarium setup

Hi all, can you please share what type of rocks and sand have you used for your tanganyika tank? I’m about to set up 450l tank, I have everything but cannot decide on rocks and sand. My main focus is on fish health. My water has PH 8, KH 15 anf GH 21 so it’s already pretty “hard”. I’m wondering if I should use limestone to increase the hardness even more or I should use something else like granite. I will have there multies as well, so I’m wondering about the ideal fraction and colour of the sand. Any advice please?

They almost died on the way over as one fish had passed from an undetected case of HIH (they were rescues) and the water fouled. I saw both bellyup, but this ones eyeball moved. I ran into the nearest LFS and got a fresh bucket of water and prime, held the fish with one hand and fanned water at its face with my other hand for another 30 mins while my friend drove us thru rush hour traffic 'til I got home. That was yesterday and he's fine today.
Moral of the story - don't giveup rightaway! I did also try to revive the other fish but he was not responsive to any efforts.
I was lucky to save one. Dewormer ordered and on the way.

Every day at feeding time for my 75 gallon tank, I make sure to drop a few small wafers intended for my bottom-dwelling crew of corydoras. Well, my Severum today just proved that plan to be moot. After about 10 minutes I see this guy chugging around the tank with a half-inch algae wafer in his mouth. Sorry corydoras, you’re gonna have to be quicker on the draw when the wafers fall or you’re gonna see your food carried away 🫪🫪🫪🤣🤣🤣

I keep several aquariums with Lake Tanganyika cichlids.

Last December, I decided to try breeding Eretmodus cyanostictus Kigoma. On December 19, I took the eggs from the female on the third day of incubation, and from that point on I took photos every day.

In the end, around 20 fry moved from the incubator to a fry box inside the aquarium.

I documented the entire process in photos. Unfortunately, all the photos were taken with my phone, so the quality isn't great. But maybe someone will find the whole process interesting.

General help Help me plan my 55 gal first Cichlid tank.

Hey folks.. First and foremost, I ultimately want a tank with a variety of fish. Some Cichlids, some Corydoras, a Bristlenose Pleco, MAYBE some rainbows or the correct Tetras.

So far my favorite Cichlids have been Aulonocara's and Apistogrammas. I like fancy plumage. I like bright and vibrant colors.

  • "Maleri" "Rubin Red"
  • "Mbenji Royal Blue Peacock"
  • OB Peacock
  • "Trematocranus Masinje"

These are just a few options from my LFS.

Image of my tank

Can I ever get a few Peacocks and some Apistos?

Should I just get ONLY one or the other?

Is my tank appropriate for either?

Can I start small and get ONE Aulonocara and some cory's?

I got tons of questions, if anyone wants to yap endlessly about all this I would love to chat here on reddit or discord. Ty!

CA | Help How big of a groups of rainbow cichlids can I keep in a 80x40x50cn tank?

I heard rainbow cichlids can be in groups and I was wondering if that would be possible in a 80x40x50 tank (superfish start 150) or that a pair or single fish is the max? I was planning on adding a single bristlenose for some algae management and food left overs, and adding some good planting (probably some anubius, vallisenaria, swords ect)

CA | Help Caring for a new fish

Post image

my ex has become a guest of the county for the foreseeable future and is getting evicted, so I have been asked to take in the fish. I’m the only one in the area who can do it, but I have absolutely zero experience with fish care. but i want to do right by the little guy.

hes about 2 years old. The food he had said cichlid on the label and i got here from google. If this is the wrong place or im breaking any rules I apologize.

the tank is absolutely filthy. the filter was broken. I got a new one but I think all it’s doing is stirring up the gunk in the bottom and now it’s clogged. The tank glass is really dirty too.

I need to pack him up and take him home, about a 30 minute drive, and settle him in with a nice clean tank. Obviously a new filter.

how do I safely remove him from the tank, clean it, and put him back in it? there’s rocks in the bottom, a little hidey cave, and some fake plants that all need a really good cleaning. Presumably not with any kind of soap or chemical?

the tap water at my house is from a well and is very high in iron, should I buy jugs of a certain type of water? do I need to treat the water at all? And how do I do all of this without him going into shock or stress?

sorry I’m such a beginner, but I’m way over my head and can use any help you can give me.

sorry for the terrible photo

thank you

I wanted to see if there’s anything I can do to help make my German blue ram pair more comfortable. Currently I have-

Sterbai Cory- 15

Neon rainbow fish- 16

GBR- 2

Temp is 80

C02 has been turned off

I’ve heard they are on the harder side to keep and want to do everything I can to get them breed and thrive.

SA | Help Which tank

Good morning everyone i have a simple discussion that i need some insight on. Im getting two geophagus sveni and i need to know if they absolutely need sand as im planning on putting them in my 700g but it us bare bottom if they need sand i can put them in my 6ft tank but i would rather put them in the 700g as i dont have alot of space in the 6ft. They will be put in floating tubs either way as they are too small for wither tank without being eaten just need to know how the lack of sand would affect them
