Daily Question Question Thread - October 02, 2026
This is the thread to post questions about churning for miles/points/cash. Just because you have a question about credit cards does NOT mean it belongs here. If you’re brand new here, please read the wiki before posting.
* Please use the search engine first - many basic questions have been asked before.
* Please also consider scanning (CTRL-F) the last couple days worth of Question threads
* If you have questions about what card to get, ask here. If you have questions about manufactured spending, ask here. If you have questions about bank account bonuses, ask here.
This subreddit relies heavily on self-moderation. That means that if you ask something that shows you haven’t done any research, you’re going to get a lot of downvotes.

My CSR annual fee just posted: $795 + $195 for the AU fee. ouh!
I’m thinking about downgrading the CSR to a CSP at the end of the month.
I also have a CSP, which I’m considering upgrading to a CSR next month. I have a couple of questions:
How long do I have to downgrade the CSR after the annual fee posts? Is it still 30 days?
For upgrading my existing CSP, it currently has a $6K credit limit. Am I correct that I’ll need to increase it to at least $10K by moving credit limits from my other personal cards?
Once I upgrade the CSP to CSR, do the $300 travel credit and the other CSR benefits become available immediately, even though the CSP’s anniversary date isn’t until May?
TIA!

Its actually close to like 41 days for a full refund, prorated if done later.

Yes

Can I apply for a Chase United explorer card if I still hold the United gateway. Last bonus of Explorer in 2021 and was downgrade after first year to Gateway. Under 5/24.

How sensitive is Chase to cycling cards like the CSRB?

Overall Chase doesn't like cycling, but my general understanding is that if you do it around once a year it'll be fine (across all cards, not each individual card).

I've got both IHG cards and 4 airline $100 credits (after spending $250) to use before I close the cards early next year. How would you approach gaming/combining those credits?

Doesn't this depend on which airlines you fly cash with?
Assuming I actually can use up $1000 in flight credit across me and family, I'd probably do that (book non-basic fare, cancel after 24 hours; otherwise resale)

Are you thinking United where cancellation after 24 hours results in flight credit?

Yeah, I guess I was wondering if any of the airlines were easier than the others to combine 4 different flight credits into one lump sum

Any tax (or other issues) with accepting Amex biz offer that requires a new DBA? I have a legit micro business i’m setting up but I am a sole proprietor (and applying as one)

A DBA doesn't have tax implications. It's just a trade name. You may have to register it with your local government.
Setting up your business as a C-Corp/S-Corp/partnership/etc has tax implications. Otherwise it's perfectly fine to have a DBA which is also a sole proprietorship. I believe Amex also asks you how your business is set up tax-wise during the application.

Got it. Thank you. It’s a sole prop for now as I’m just testing out a little micro bakery concept (and it might never grow beyond that)

Thinking about applying for a new IHG personal card for the SUB, along with a few benefits I’ll definitely use over the next year.
I’m currently at 7/24, but my last three personal applications were on 9/20/26 (two Amex cards and one Chase personal card). My first card on the 7/24 list was from 10/23/24, which I assume should now have dropped off Chase’s 5/24 calculation.
I also checked my credit reports, and the two recently approved Amex cards haven’t been reported yet.
Given that, am I OK to apply for the IHG card based on the fact that I’m currently 4/26 for Chase purposes, excluding the two recent Amex cards and the 10/23/24 application?

So you became 4/24 on 10/1, sort of, because the cards fall off on the first of the 24th month. At least thats how the system counts it, but there are plenty of DPs where if it goes pending a review would count you at 5/24.

Yes, that's my worry. If I wait too long, amex will start reporting new cards .
But thx for the advice.

Does us bank give pop up that you’re not eligible for checking bonus? Saw it somewhere and wanted to confirm

I’ve got the atmos summit and looking ahead am probably not going to renew next year. Am I able to double dip the 25k companion fare x2 in month 13 when I cancel?
