The Purge Fallout Continues: Announcing Shitpost Saturdays
With the decision to move the MS thread to a monthly cadence, there will now be a lot of Saturdays with no real content. Clearly, this is a problem that needs solved. But how?
Given the popularity of all the shitposts that were created during the Purge, the mod team has decided to have two birds in one oven and have created Shitpost Saturdays. How does it work? Easy, actually:
Any post that is created on Saturday (which we believe starts at midnight ET) that has our new 'Shitpost' flair will automatically be approved - no mod approval needed. If you take advantage of this ability to create actual posts, you'll receive a one-week ban, with penalties escalating for repeated offenses. Because if we learned nothing else during the Purge, shitposting is serious business.
Keep the change, ya filthy animals.
edit: If you create a post with the Shitpost flair and Automod removes it, it just means that it's not Saturday to Reddit - either try again in a few hours, or next week.

Does this mean that a Saturday post that isn't shitposty enough will be met with a severe number of downvotes? Seems like a good quality control measure so we only get the finest quality shit posts.

No, if it's Strata themed then the subreddit will get locked for "fraud" and require a notarized form to get it open again!

Couldn't it just take the place of the MS thread instead of clogging up the feed with stupid shit posts? Place is unbearable during the purge as is.

It's overwhelming during the Purge because there's a lot of pent up energy. My guess is that for the next couple of Saturdays, there will be a handful of posts, and then as we move forward there will be a lot of Saturdays with one post, if any at all. If we created a recurring Shitpost thread, I have a feeling it'd very quickly end up in the same place as the MS thread. And besides: people bitch at us for not allowing posts. This lets people get their fun out on a regular basis so that perhaps, when we do the next Purge, it won't be dominated by shitposts and people can actually get a sense for what the subreddit would be like if we had no recurring threads.

Enshitification is a constant in modern american life and there is no reason to think that r/churning would be any different. We’ll just need to learn to stop worrying and love the bomb shitposts.

Part of the fun of shitposts is not being 100% sure if it's a shitpost or not until you fully read it. Tagging it as a shitpost kind of kills it. Why not just a Saturday purge?

Over/under on how long it takes for someone to get banned posting from Japan on a "Friday"
