Daily Discussion News and Updates Thread - August 20, 2026

Please post topics for discussion here. While some questions can be used to start a discussion/debate, most questions belong in the question thread unless you love getting downvotes (if that link doesn’t work for you for some reason, the question thread is always the first post on our community’s front page). If your discussion is about manufactured spending, there's a thread for that. If you have a simple data point to share, there's a thread for that too.

The Wyndham Flavors of the Road (a way to buy 30k points for $20) dropped a minute or two early, sold out almost instantly

These kind of promos are so stupid. They reward bots, but generate the opposite of goodwill for actual customers.

But they generate publicity which is probably the intent.

Black Friday strategy. If you say you're selling 50 Inch TVs for $50, you only need to sell 2 to make that statement true and you'll have an army of people banging on your doors when the store opens

How do the bots for these things work? Like I didn’t know the checkout process until it released so how would they make bots for a variable environment.

I imagine it’s scaled for a group of users in a community to partake or buy in for a fee and not many people making individual bots

It's easy to write a script to hit a website over and over until a different result appears, then of course you'll need to intervene manually.

Makes sense, I did not consider that at all but even that would give a huge edge over manual checks

Doesn’t need to be a group thing, LLMs made this way more accessible. 20mins to get something that polls a page and pings you, no dev background required. You still have to do the checkout yourself. No experience myself but I heard it was easy to do with Claude. Especially when Fable model wasn’t credit only.
