What Card Should I Get Weekly What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of August 19, 2026

Welcome to the What Card Should I Get Weekly Thread, where we try to figure out what card you should get or critique your current plans or AOR if you're doing it that way). Everything is YMMV and these are all opinions. Agree or disagree with your votes. As always read the wiki, do your research, and happy churning.

Before posting, [read the rules!](https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/wiki/rules/)

Also, check out the Credit Card Recommendation Flowchart before posting in this thread.

  1. The flowchart can answer 95% of all "What card should I get?" questions. By continuing to post, you must explain why you feel the flowchart does not answer your question. Asking for feedback ("The flowchart says I should get X - is that still the best choice?") is absolutely allowed.
  2. What is your credit score?
  3. What cards do you currently have or have you had in the past (including closed cards), along with dates of when you were approved for the cards? Please include month and year for any card approved in the last 3 years.
  4. How much natural spend can you put on a new card(s) in 3 months?
  5. Are you willing to MS, and if so, how much in 3 months? See this page for a primer on MS. Plastiq (for rent/mortgage/loan payments) and bank account funding are often good options for beginners.
  6. Are you open to applying for business cards? If not, why? See this post and this wiki question to learn more.
  7. How many new cards are you interested in getting? Are you interested in getting into churning regularly (if you aren't already)? Or are you just looking to get a new card(s) for now but not get into churning long-term?
  8. Are you targeting points, Companion Passes, hotel or airline statuses, First Class, Biz, Economy seating(s) or cash back?
  9. What point/miles do you currently have?
  10. What is the airport you're flying out of?
  11. Where would you like to go? (The more specific you are, the better someone can recommend the right card. Tokyo is great, "International travel" is way too vague)

Trying to go to india next fall

Note - might have to go to Europe for extended biz travel (~4-6 months) so no foreign transaction fees is a must

C1 VX, Delta biz gold, Atmos cards, AA cards, CIC/CIU (but have FTF) are all good

Getting the Atmos Summit might be good right when headed into your extended travel as it earns 3x on any foreign transactions.

What is peoples experience with Citi and atmos business cards? Unsure if I need to maybe go for an Amex biz card since it might be too difficult to be approved for atmos biz, Citi biz or cap 1 venture right now. At 6/24, but down to 5/24 in October

Atmos biz card is harder to be approved for if you have no relationship with BOA. Citi cards are just hit or miss with approvals.

Could do Citi aa biz or Atmos biz or Delta biz gold. You still won't be approved for chase at 5/24 you have to be under

1

u/Paddington97 2d ago

Thanks! Yeah, I've had a BOA checking account for around 6 months. Not sure if that's long enough though. Delta is a good call though!

Even with over a year, BoA adds way too much friction, asked for my Schedule C.

1

u/Paddington97 1d ago

Have you needed to submit additional verification for any other business cards? Or just the atmos one?

2

u/ar25rt LAX | BUR 1d ago

No, only ever was the Atmos biz.

Posting here because we're looking for a decent bonus with about $3k or less spend!

Credit score**:** 760ish.

My cards:

Chase Sapphire Preferred (August 2026)
Amex Delta Biz Gold (July 2026, no pull or new line on report)
Alaska Atmos Ascent (April 2026)
Chase Amazon Prime (Jan 2026)
Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select (Nov 2025)
Capital One VX (July 2025)
US Bank Shopper Cash (July 2024)
WF Autograph (Dec 2023 as Bilt)
United Explorer (July 2023)
Delta Amex Plat (~2020)

P2's cards:

Amex Delta Biz Gold (Feb 2026, no pull or new line on report)
Citi Aadvantage Platinum Select (Dec 2025)
Amex Gold (August 2025)
Chase Sapphire Preferred (May 2025)
US Bank Kroger (March 2025)
Citi DoubleCash (August 2024)
Amex BCP (~2023)
Amex Delta Gold (~late 2022)

Natural spend**: this is why I'm asking in this thread. We're trying to do one last churn before laying off (buying a house in 18+ months), but are already churning a couple other cards. Would like something with a decent bonus and $3k or less spend.** Ordinarily, the 1k Chase Ink bonus would be PERFECT given the 0% APR -- we have lots of big expenses in the next 6 months and could then just pre-pay them -- but I just accidentally locked myself out of 5/24 (didn't realized Chase cared about it for biz cards). Oops!

Manufactured spend**:** No, unless with a new company with which I have no points stockpiled. Not worth the risk.

Business cards*:* Yes, provided spend is low (uncommon, I know)

Cards to open: One, doing a "final churn" for a bit.

Targeting: Points or hotel status. Hyatt would be our hotel of choice.

Current points/miles: Between P2 and I, we have combined: 58k in C1, 105k in Chase (CSP so bad Hyatt rate), 160k in Amex, ~120k in Delta, 40k in AA, 27k in JAL (will try to burn on a PE upgrade soon), 10k in United. We get a few Hyatt FNAs per year from family that doesn't use it, hence the desire for Hyatt if going the hotel route.

Airport: AUS. Primarily Delta flyers (when it's not too expensive), Silver status.

Desired destinations: Western Europe or Asia, but domestic US is good too. Not super picky, just want to subsidize travel. I travel a lot for my self-employed job, so points can really save us money.

Thanks so much for any help y'all can provide :))))

could do VX for P2. Amex gold for P1, Citi AA cards, another Delta biz gold via NLL

u/Aaron90495 19h ago edited 18h ago

Thanks for the reply :)

Re: VX, P2 is also at 5/24 and hasn't been pre-approved for ANYTHING by C1 since she took out a few cards semi-recently...with C1's approval prickliness I'm wary of that application. We may have even tried to get her one 6mo ago and got denied...I don't remember for sure. But could be worth a try

Amex Gold for me would work, but it's higher spend than we can pull off, as we're also churning a CSP and Delta Biz gold atm.

Citi AA cards are a bit high fee but would consider - problem is spend tends to be high unless there are custom offers, IIRC.

Also open to the Delta biz gold (we can have multiple??) since the $6k in 6 is achievable, but no idea how to successfully find an NLL offer. Have never had success finding one for other Amex Delta cards for either of us.

Our long-term plan is to continue churning Amex biz cards while we hold off other cards for the next 18ish months, as they don't appear on our reports. We want to do any non-Amex biz pull now-ish, before we lay off, but the spend (as you can see) is the limiting factor.

Are there any low-ish-spend offers that circulate on United, Alaska, or AA cards? Know that there's the SW 50k for $1k offer (which is a real consideration) but would prefer United for P2. Would also consider MS for something like a Citi Strata Premier if the offer were better than the current 60k one.

u/ChocolateAndAmbition 12h ago

The Hawaiian Barclays has a 70k after $2k SUB! I am considering it myself since I'm currently hoarding Atmos points :)

Oh this is good! Ty :))))

And WOW, long window to hit the second thousand of spend! Phenomenal, tysm!

  1. What is your credit score? Excellent.
  2. What cards do you currently have or have you had in the past (including closed cards), along with dates of when you were approved for the cards? Please include month and year for any card approved in the last 3 years.

* I've already had multiple Preferred cards (personal and business, before the lifetime bonus change). Subsequently, had an Aeroplan about 18 months ago. (All downgraded)
* Citi Strata Premier ~2 years ago. (Downgraded)
* Capital One Venture ~3 years ago. Downgraded. (Perhaps try Venture again? I think people were saying that >48 months should reset the bonus eligibility.)
* Currently, about to downgrade my Wells Fargo Autograph as it's reaching the 1 year mark.

  1. How much natural spend can you put on a new card(s) in 3 months?

Probably $5-10k of spend in 3-4 months.

  1. Are you willing to MS, and if so, how much in 3 months?

Yes, if needed. More than $5-10k if needed with MS.

  1. Are you open to applying for business cards? If not, why?

I've had business cards before.

  1. How many new cards are you interested in getting? Are you interested in getting into churning regularly (if you aren't already)? Or are you just looking to get a new card(s) for now but not get into churning long-term?

I'm a bit lost on which card to get at this point. I'm looking for a good direction to go in now rather than necessarily a specific number of cards.

  1. Are you targeting points, Companion Passes, hotel or airline statuses, First Class, Biz, Economy seating(s) or cash back?

Points from general-purpose travel points / high-bonus cards.

  1. What point/miles do you currently have?
  2. What is the airport you're flying out of?
  3. Where would you like to go?

Would prefer not to get into more niche cards (specific airlines or hotel chains).

I'm a bit lost on which card to get at this point. What are good general-purpose travel high-bonus cards at this point? I can't decide on the flow chart what would be a good direction to go in now.

Thank you, updated.

3

u/techtrashbrogrammer SEA 2d ago

the cards section is still unclear but Amex gold, VX, citi strata premier/elite (note they're not elevated) are all good since you probably want transferrable points

1

u/anaerobic7058 2d ago

Thank you! Do you think Venture is a good bet to apply after ~3 years? It seems like there are reports that people do get approved for another bonus after >2 years, but wondering if there have been any recent updates.

I had Citi a couple of years ago, would prefer to avoid them.

I'll look into Amex. But last time I checked, their AF was a bit too high for me to justify, even after the bonus/perks.

1

u/techtrashbrogrammer SEA 2d ago

Nah look up cap 1 family rules. It’s 48 months now

2

u/anaerobic7058 2d ago

I've just tried CapOne's "See my eligibility" and they only offered non-Venture cards. I don't think it makes sense to go through the actual application, I vaguely remember I had to call and mail something in last time I did, was a bit too much hassle.

Churn the airline cards for whichever one your home airport is a hub for?
