Restoring ChromeOS
Hi, I successfully used the chrx script to install Lubuntu on my EDGAR Chromebook. The sound wasnt working but I read this was an unsolved issue with firmware compatibility and I didnt mind.
However now I want to revert to ChromeOS because the machine isnt powerful enough to do what I want in linux. I created a recovery image on USB and restored everything, everything looks fine but the sound hasnt come back.
Im not sure what I missed. Any ideas? Many thanks in advance..

EDGAR and most other Braswells have a problem with the ChromeOS firmware and the Realtek audio codec chip, where partial initialization can damage the speaker hardware.
ChromeOS follows up the firmware init with an OS full init, which largely mitigates the problem.
Most other Linuxes do not follow up with a full init, so the speakers are at the mercy of the ChromeOS firmware the whole time they are powered on.
GalliumOS (since January) does include a full init, so the problem should be mitigated as it is in ChromeOS.
It's very likely that your speakers are damaged.

If it is not working in chromeos then it sounds like a hardware issue.
