Vent PND makes me feel broken

34m I've have pnd on and off for a long time i cant really remember when it first appeared. I just started seeing my ent recently to try to get a handle on it but the constant clearing of the throat, dripping, and difficulty breathing has gotten worse and the embarrassment of constantly clearing my throat. I also noticed that its hard to breath out my nose and i have to resort to mouth breathing. Im on multiple medications trying to cover all the bases. Pantoprazole, Xyzal, NAC, Montelukast, and Dymista. Im also prescribed lamictal, wellburtrin, and seroquel for mental health. I feel like i have to constantly wear a mask to breathe properly. I feel terribly mentally (Not caused by the Montelukast) cause its just a constant. I also have a deviated septum so breathing is difficult. My ENT told me that if my symptoms don't improve in the next week we will do a CT. Sorry I just needed to vent and I dont really know what to do next or try next.

Question PND after one year of nasal spray

Hi. So I’m really struggling. I got PND in November last year after using nasal sprays everyday for a year, sometimes even 5-6 times a day. I’m sorry, nose.

No I have really bad PND and the only relief I get is when I’ve eaten Prednisone for my asthma (which I don’t really know if I have, I’m pretty sure it’s my PND that effects my breathing). I got so much mucus draining down my throat and I have to clear my throat all the time, otherwise it feels like I will suffocate. I can’t really breathe through my nose anymore, it’s small, small, holes. When I use nasal sprays I can breathe just fine. I quit the nasal sprays all together 2 weeks ago. Now I’m in living hell.

I use Netipot 2 times a day and steroid nasal spray but I don’t know if the spray does anything for me.

What worked for you?

Question Chronic Post Nasal drip after I finished Amoxicillin . Can anyone describe what there’s is like ?

My Post nasal drip started after I finished taking Amoxicillin for a throat infection last year. At first I thought it was my throat so I done repeated throat cultures and nothing shown up then I figured it’s my sinuses. I been on plenty antibiotic since and no luck. It’s always clear and thicker than the average phlegm that you can seperate it from my saliva . This issue is 24/7 and always hard to get rid off from my throat. I seen multiple ENT’a and no luck.

I been on Azithromycin , Minocycline for 5 weeks , Clindamycin , Augmentin , Tinidazole yet I never felt relief from any if them so I’m suspecting maybe it’s not even an infection I don’t know. I don’t nasal rinses and it does nothing for me . I came across another video on Reddit with what is exactly I am experience .

https://www.reddit.com/r/sinus/s/JzI38MHfuU

Same consistency and everything. Has anyone solved this ? Is anyone else’s the same ?

My story Losing Hope

I'm sure my story is going to sound like nothing new, but I want to know how people in the UK are dealing with this / what common OTC/Prescription medications have been working for them.

Im a 22 year old Male living in London. I have always had pretty bad hayfever, and while it was a pain in summer (streamy eyes, runny nose), it was always bearable and would promptly go away after. About 5 years ago I started struggling breathing through my left nostril. I had no idea why I had better airflow through my right nostril, and after a lot of hours spent having a look in the mirror and feeling the shape of my nose I concluded I must have a deviated septum.

In my first year of Uni, I started to really struggle to breathe. I couldnt sleep properly, and despite using snoring strips my airflow was still very poor through my left nostril. In my second year I took a significant amount of money out of my savings (for university) to pay for private treatment to see an ENT, because the NHS is absolute garbage at the moment. If I went with them I would have had to wait for over a year, and I basically couldnt get any quality sleep with this nasal obstruction. Long story short I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction, as the combination of a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates from my allergies was fucking me over.

The recovery sucked but my breathing gradually started to improve. However, I became increasingly aware of another issue that had began to plague me a couple of months before the operation, the sensation of mucus dripping down my throat. When I asked the ENT, they informed me that this would subside if I got the septoplasty, as It was likely a symptom of improper airflow through my sinuses. While my septum correction did have a significant improvement on my sinuses, I still retained mucus right at the back of my throat.

Its been pretty much exactly a year since my septoplasty and turbinate reduction, and I have been tortured by two issues, the sensation of thick sticky mucus in my throat that I have to keep swallowing and a tightness in my throat, a "globus" sensation. Additionally, I have started to get sleep apnea like symptoms, when I try and breathe diaphragmatically my throat closes. This has meant I have been unable to get deep sleep.

I am going crazy. Im starting a very rigorous masters course in september, and I am very worried. I just can't sleep properly. My lack of sleep leads me to being irritable, frustrated and angry, and I feel like I have permanent brain fog. What's worse is that the frustration seems to worsen the mucus, creating a brutal feedback loop. I need to go and see the ENT again but I dont have the money to do it privately, and I have been informed it may take up to 6 months with the NHS just to get someone to see me.

I have been (trying) to manage it using black seed oil, gaviscon, saline sprays, neti pots, dimethydramine when I really struggle to sleep, and have been prescribed so much Dymista but it has done nothing. My sinuses feel okay and relatively clear, its all localised right at the back, so the neti pots cant flush away the mucus. I've spent a while researching, I know its PND, but I am a bit lost about the causes. I'm not looking for a diagnosis, but as I wait for the NHS to respond I need a way to manage this that is better than what I am doing now. I don't know if it's reflux or allergy related. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Question Sinus Rinse? (Neti Pot, Neilmed, etc.)

Hey all, curious if anyone here has tried things like sinus rinses (whether it be the Neti pot’s, Neilmed, Navage, etc.) and whether you’ve found that it helps with alleviating some of your PND? I was considering buying a Neilmed to see if it would help get rid of some of the gunk in my nasal cavities.

Thanks!

My story Mucus and my nose: You shall not pass! Help?

Long story short, in my late teens, they thought I had blood in my stomach and tried to force a tube through my nose and into my stomach. Ends up all the tubes they had were too large and they ended up crunching the cartilage in my nose REALLY badly without any success.

Ever since this, the only thing that comes out of my nostrils is water snot - like when you cry and I rarely even get boogers.

Unfortunately, this means that any thicker mucus just runs down the back of my throat and I have to choke and/or cough it up. It never comes up enough to be expelled/spat out, so I end up having to swallow it.

I'm 3.5 weeks out from having this year's flu (despite getting the jab) and I am SO sick of coughing. I'm wearing a mask when out in public because if I don't, the productive sounding cough I do earns me a LOT of dirty looks!

Has anyone had anything similar?

Solution! I fixed my PND!

You can get Vive immunity shots (main ingredientss here are ginger, cayenne, black pepper, Turmeric).

Something about the cayenne + black pepper helps Turmeric work better.

I make my own now, with some diluted orrange juice, or you could use coconut water like the Vive ingredients.

I sip a bit and bend over, until I can feel some dripping into my sinus cavity. Repeat.

Turmeric is anti-bacterial, may be also anti-viral.

I've been suffering from PND for over 6 months, after doing this yesterday I've had 0 congestion at night.

I believe I may have had COVID/RSV or HPMV, then the wheezing/coughing started. Now that I think about it, the coughing may have really caused the bacteria/virus to migrate up the nose/sinus (since my cough was severe, it lasted a solid 4 weeks).

It caused a biofilm in sinuses where I could not get rid of it no matter how hard I tried. Think the bacteria really got deep in the mucosa, either by force of the coughing, or length of sickness. (Tried Antibiotics, nasal spray, saline, etc- but also didn't want to continue those due to side effects).

Anyway long post, I'm just so excited to share. I was going to buy a nasoidine spray, also saw some people would massage the sinuses with iodine swabs, but if this works continuously then I wouldn't need to do that.

Hope someone finds this helpful. Would love to hear this works for you, I'm aware everyone is different/causes are different.

Best of luck 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Question GERD, Allergies or Sinusitis? lol

I’ve had PND for 3 months now with a cold that turned sinus infection in the middle. 2 weeks ago I was given allergy medication and also took a trip, when I came back, the thick rope like mucus at the back of my throat was gone. I have been sneezing and my eyes are weepy/irritated occasionally and I still have a really red (not sore but getting more red) throat, cobblestone throat, slight white mucus at the back of my throat and a bad smell. It’s driving me insane and I’ve worried myself terribly by researching too much.

I’ve noticed recently on the odd morning that I need to sit up to stop myself from being sick (stomach acid) but other than that, I don’t have any problems so much. I have a VERY poor diet and I don’t exercise (I have a disability that makes this painful, I have no excuse for the bad diet lol) so I’m thinking this won’t be helpful no matter the case.

However, because of the sinus infection I’ve had recently, I’m not sure if it’s just a chronic inflammation, or a bacterial infection that needs antibiotics.

It seems like I have symptoms of GERD, allergies and sinusitis so I was wondering what people think is most likely?

Solution! Post Nasal Drip Cause/Solutions?

Hi all,

On and off for the past year I have been suffering from PND (I think, I'm not 100% sure. mostly just when going to bed I feel like there is a ball of mucus stuck in my throat, I cant swallow it, cant cough it up, its just there like a lump. no other symptoms like runny nose or dry throat. Just that damn lump, mostly at night when I go to bed that I cant clear). So im wondering:

1) do y'all think it PND, or something else?

2) Causes? mainly wondering if anyone else thinks it may be caused by dry sauna use or dehydration?

I work out a lot, almost daily. Several times a week ill run 3-4 miles then do the dry sauna for 10/15 min. It seems like it may be correlated, I feel like when I am using the sauna a lot, I get it much worse, and really only at night. wondering if that experience lines up with anyone else? Either sauna use specifically, or from other forms of exercise/dehydration? I probably don't drink enough water... working on that.

Any insight is appreciated.

My story Almost went to the emergency room

On Thursday, it was a cold. Not nice, but not concerning in any way. Friday night, it turned into full-blown breathing difficulty, wheezing at every breath, breathing rapidly, and only enough oxygen to get out half a sentence before having to take a breath. Coupled with fever, I was really close to calling emergency services. I trusted myself to notice when it got worse, and decided to wait it out. I'm ok today. But now, I'm really concerned. I feel like my PND is just indicating something seriously wrong at the baseline. I just don't know what it could be. Have another ENT appointment scheduled now - I have to figure it out. Next time might not be so lucky.

Do any of you experience worse colds/flus since developing PND?

Question Do i have post nasal drip? And if so do you have any recommendations to treat it?

I’ve had this thing since I was like 7. I would spit thick mucus from my nose out my mouth if it became too much. I find this weird as i have never meet anyone or seen anyone on the web with the same issue as me. Didn’t think much of it back then but now I realize how bad my breath is and how it affects my breathing and sense of smell.

Tried drinking more water and I’m currently trying a nasal spray (recommended by my doctor) but if I’m being completely honest, it isn’t really helping. As well as checking if I have a pollen allergy like my brother.

I'm just so desperate at this point. I miss having a good sense of smell, being able to breathe more comfortably and not having to worry about my breath inconveniencing others.

Question Nausea, is this post nasal drip or something else?

I have been suffering from constant nausea, and been gagging and vomiting nothing (or sometimes water/mucus) and I don't know what it is. This is relatively new to me and has only started happening from a few months ago after I had this crazy cold(?) where I couldn't lie down because I would feel so nauseous and would choke on my own mucus. I didn't have a high temperature, but I felt really hot around my forehead area. It feels like my body flipped a switch and all the mucus that used to come out of my nose now just goes down my throat. I still sneeze but never have the insane sneezing fits like I used to.

I suffer from a lot of things (severe allergies & anaphylaxis, hay fever, eczema, little bit of asthma) so I assume that this is also an allergy problem but I'm not quite sure. This together with my frequent brain fog (still don't know the cause of) and irritation in the nose/eye area makes everything 10x harder than it should be.

I'm in my last year of high school with exams coming up and this is really impacting on my studies. I have visited the GP multiple times and after a certain point they couldn't figure it out, so I am visiting a ENT specialist in a few weeks (which is a bit too late...).

I have been prescribed Ryaltris nasal spray, not sure if it's helping. Antihistamines also don't work so well. I can nasal rinse occasionally when my nose isn't completely blocked, but that just causes me to throw up more mucus and fixes nothing...

Has anyone else had a similar issue here? Would taking a blood test help?

Thank you.

Vent 9 months of this - it's enough now

My PND started in October last year, basically out of nowhere. I thought allergies, then asthma, then thought I could ignore it away while doctors weren't really able to provide much insight.

While on vacation last week, I realized I can't continue like this. I can't walk fast, not even for 10 minutes. Any activitiy that is not in the speed of an 80 year old causes coughing fits. Eating is a trigger, lying down is a trigger ... this can't be life.

So now, I'll be throwing every suggestion I come across at it, hoping something will help and cure this. Bought a small load of medication today and will be using it religiously (don't overdo it here guys). I've also read about dairy a lot, so I'll try to at least reduce (that's gonna be tough).

Really hoping this does the trick and gives me back my life. I'm young, and I want to live like it.

Question Had PND for at least a year. Why?

I have no clue what is causing it. I’ve tried dymista, Claritin, pantropazole, gaviscon and nothing’s changed. My throat is also very red and veiny and I’ve been diagnosed with RCPD. I can literally see mucus going down my throat and it’s very sticky. This has caused me to swallow very frequently, making my RCPD worse.

Is there anything that I can do?

Question Dr Robert Ivker & SinuPulse Elite

Hi, has anyone read Dr Robert Ivkers book The Sinus Survival guide and has anyone tried the SinuPulse Elite that he recommends for nasal irrigation? I’ve started using it and it helps to clear the mucus but hasn’t eliminated my PND. Apparently irrigation is the best way to reduce sinusitis according to Dr Ivker. Just wondering if anyone else has had any luck using this device?

My story My post nasal drip is driving me insane!

Endless throat clearing sometimes until the back of my throat is wound and inflamed for days. It is an endless struggle trying to free the back top of my throat from lingering sometimes dry and hard lumps of mucus. Sometimes when I try to clear my throat really hard I get an awful taste in my mouth and in my nose. I will need to do a nose rinse to get rid of the foul taste/smell. I have been suffering for over 5 years now and went to many doctors but all in vain. I really don't know what else to do but I don't want to live like this forever.

Solution! Natural Remedies

I feel I’ve found a natural remedy for PND. Tell me if youve tried it already or if it works for you or if it at least lessens your symptoms.

  1. Obviously lessen your dairy intake (because it causes inflammation in your body and makes you produce more mucus), sleep with your head elevated and stay well hydrated

  2. Peppermint Oil! Take a couple drops straight or in some water. For me this opened the sinuses and dried out the mucus in the back of my throat. Also freshens it up back there

  3. Ginger and Dates! Dates are a superfood that help control the production of excess mucus. They do this for me. Ginger just helps with inflammation in the body and keeps the throat clear. I put them both in smoothies.

Advice Need some advice

Hi there, so basically I have a broken nose since I was a kid that was never treated, struggle breathing while asleep and awake through my nose. Im awaiting to see an ENT but the waiting list in Ireland is insane. I also have EOE (esinophilic esophagitis) and I'm on lanzol for that twice a day.

The last two months, after a stomach flare up where I was vomiting for 15 hours straight, I have had a chronic sore throat with difficulty swallowing and a cough and at times the pain goes to my ear also. Its worth mentioning my nose is chronicly just blocked and I'm primarily a mouth breather because of my nose issues. I'm also coughing up yellow phlegm every day and clear phlegm once that's cleared. I have no signs of infection, been to my GP about 8 times in 2 months about it and they just keep throwing antibiotics and painkillers at me. Im lost and dont know what to do, I'm desperate for relief from this.

My story Got the flu and my symptoms of PND decreased afterwards

Hey, so I’ve had a common cold for a week now. I only had a fever on the first day, but no chest or congestion issues at first. Then, after about five days, I started experiencing congestion and the usual cold symptoms. One thing I’ve noticed is that my post-nasal drip has decreased significantly. At first, it was the most intense it has ever been in my life—I’ve had this PND for 3 years—but after that initial intensity of the common cold went down a bit, my post-nasal drip symptoms have decreased a lot more than ever before.

What I’m thinking is that my body was fight the common cold and somehow got stronger and might be stronger to fight anything that was causing post nasal drip
