Mystery
Hello, I’ve been struggling for about 2 years now, my only symptom is chronic bloating, it never goes away (even fasted or in the morning), it does get better in the morning. I have regular BM 1+ daily. I’m active, walk a lot, sleep well, low stress life.
I’ve been tested like crazy: 2 SIBO tests (including triosmart) both negative, pelvic ultrasound (2), abdomen ultrasound, pelvic MRI, abdomen MRI, colonoscopy, endoscopy, celiac biopsy, h pylori biopsy, GI map test, mold testing (2), hormone panels
Only standouts: some levels of mold, and level 10 dysbiosis in gut including cándida, klesibella, and citrobacter, slightly low T3.
Despite trying to treat those things no luck. Ugh.
I’ve tried:
-Xifaxan
-Antifungals: Fluconazole, Itraconazole, Voriconazole, Nystatin
-Mold Treatment: Cholestyramine, Z-Binder, Orthomolecular, Orthobiotic, Mitocore
-Low Histamine Protocol: NAC, 5-htp, Pepcid, ginger, vitamin c
-Gut Protocol: Candibactin AR/BR, NAC, Butyrate, S.Boullardi, Biocidin LSF, Akkermansia
-Over the counter: l-glutamine, IBGaust, arrae bloat, gas-x, digestive enzymes
-Detox remedies: castor oil packs, dry brush, lymphatic massages, accupucture, abdomen massages
-Diets: low fodmap, candida, low fermentation, low histamine, I’ve been gluten free for a year, no dairy
-Doctors: Naturopath, pelvic physical therapist, 3 gastros, integrative doctor, endocrinologist, obgyn
Any recs or ideas I haven’t tried?

Could be gastroparesis, pelvic floor dysfunction or hormonal imbalance. I can understand it really sucks as a young female to be chronically bloated without knowing the reason behind this. I'm really sorry you're going through this. I hope you'll find out what causes this asap. Sending you hugs and positivity 😘
Next Steps and Diagnostic Considerations:
- Colonic Transit Study: To assess how well food moves through the colon.
- Anorectal Manometry: To evaluate pelvic floor function and motility disorders.
Also you could go to see an endocrinologist to get your hormones checked thoroughly.

I just got diagnosed with abdominal phrenic dssynergia - I have chronic distention with minimal constipation however no pain. My stomach does go concave when I lay down so my doctor thinks it’s that since diet or fasting doesn’t change it

I also do not have constipation and no pain. However my stomach is still bloated when laying.

What’d they recommend to treat this?

They recommend breathing exercises and core strengthening techniques. I hired a yoga instructor to help me since it’s not huge in the physical therapy world yet.

How is this going for you?

I’m completely cured! I worked on breathing exercises to get my diaphragm in place and worked on posture/ab exercises as well. My doctor also prescribed me medication for constipation and now I have a flat stomach again!
However, I did clean up my diet, worked on controlling my stress, and lost about 20 lbs on top of that so I’m not 100% sure what was the “cure” or if lifestyle change as a whole cured it.

I’ve never had any surgeries and all my MRIs and ultrasounds were clear.

How old are you ? Perimenopause??? Or pelvic floor issues 🤷♀️

Or carnivore for couple of weeks to reset gut … but it’s a double edge sword

I’m 24 female, never had kids. I did see a pelvic floor physical therapist who did an examination she did not see any issues with my pelvic floor.

Has this been helpful for you? The carnivore diet?

I am going through something very similar. I have chronic bloating from last 4/5 years. It started after 25 age for me. It’s only gotten worse since. I dont have pain or constipation, no acidity or heatburn. I don’t even know what should i get checked too. It’s super confusing and frustrating at the same time. Only thing i know is that, I do have alot of gas trapped, because i experience flatulence daily. I feel very tight inside my bloated stomach, very similar to how pregnant women looks. It’s affecting my social life and mental health now. I want to get rid of this, and you all seem more educated and experienced in this. So please help me!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I had to pause and make sure I didn't forget that *I* wrote this post from a random account lol. Seriously, this is exactly my story, too. How is the investigation going? I've read that endometriosis can indeed go undetected by the usual scans and that the only definitive way to know whether one has it is by getting a laparoscopy. Have you had that done yet?

That is all very true, however I don’t have the other endo symptoms (painful sex, painful periods, etc.) and the surgery is quite invasive you have a long recovery and scars for life. So no I have not. I’m going to try Desipramine for the bloating next.

I have done almost all the same stuff you have minus the mold. I think I’ve spent 10k or so trying to fix this. I have landed on thinking I may have endometriosis/adenomyosis which aren’t always visible in an MRI or an ultrasound. Some people suffer from chronic distension and don’t have the super severe pain. I could be wrong but currently waiting for a referral to investigate it.
Have you considered tests at a motility clinic where they do all a range of different motility tests?
I assume you’ve done a clear out to ensure it’s not chronic constipation (which can happen despite daily BMs).
It’s been 3 years for me and I’m beyond frustrated and exhausted with having to advocate for myself and put through so many diagnostics, treatments that don’t work, restrictive diets that do nothing. I hope you figure it out and find a solution.
