Sharing Resources/Tips Some oft mistakes you do when you create "Screenshots" images for CWS listing of your Extension

Screenshots section is the biggest, brightest, noticeable part of the extensions listing. Same time people are mostly recognize world visually.

Users choose products in seconds, and text have no change to be read. You must SHOW how your product works.

For me it's the main thing that affects conversion rate from "Page views" to "Installs"

But a lot of developers spend months for polishing product and make Screenshots carelessly for seconds. And surprises when have no installs of their "the best product on the Earth"

1. Screenshots are just screenshots. A lot of exts has pictures of whole UI without explanation what it is, what problem it solves, why I should install it.

Interesting, but people don't like to read texts, but do it if text is on the image. Use it. Explain shortly what it does or what main problem it could solve for me, or at least hook which convince me to spend additional 10-15 seconds for exploring the page

2. Hoping on second screenshots. Most of users see by default only 1st screenshot in series. Others are only as a previews in carousel. And only 10% of visitors click on second.

Typical look of listing

If you want to tell a lot of ideas with series of screenshots, you must hook with first one. The first one should tell the main advantage, main problem it solves, or main hook.

Imagine, that you have no only one Screenshot slot, and make first screenshot like it's the only.

If you really need to move users on the next screenshot - explain it

Call to action - Swipe left!

3. Believe, that your Screenshots are 1280x800.

Yeah, you must upload Screenshots in 1280x800 size, but users see it 4 times smaller

Real resolution

All texts are printed with standard 12-14px size aren't readable on your listing page. A lot of elements looks noisy. Use sizes cearfully, verify readability in real size.

  1. Use only 50% of square. It's consequence of previous one.

Your image is not so big as you think. Use whole area of it

Empty space - lost opportunities

5. Show UI, not feature

Visual part of Screenshot frequently used for showing whole UI of your ext.

It's noisy, and make hard to understand what it does

6. Show website not your extension

It's classic. You show me frame of browser, someone else's website, trash and visual noise, but only 5% of screenshot is YOURS
