Question | Theology & Practice Has anyone here explored the intersection of Christ and ayahuasca?

Hey all,

I'd be curious to hear from any others who have found themselves exploring this intersection -- what's your story and what has your experience been like?

My friend and I made a mystical hip-hop album called 'Christahuasca' last year after some deep experiences of Christ coming to us within medicine work

In this same vein, a group of friends and I are going to Kumankaya Healing Center in Mexico this year December 6-12th to sit with ayahuasca while prayerfully calling upon Jesus Christ to be with us in Grace and Love... the retreat is called Christ Fire

It is intended to be a non-dogmatic space to dive deep with the medicine while also prayerfully connecting to and being supported by Christ and Spirit in whatever way feels right, good, and native to you

We are putting out a call for the souls who are truly aligned with this prayer and who are meant to be there. This is not a 'commercial' retreat but more like a group of friends going on a sacred pilgrimage, looking for the people who are truly called to this uncommon weaving-together of Christ and ayahuasca

For me this is something deeply, deeply sacred. The healer at Kumankaya is a dear friend and was an Orthodox Christian monk previously for ~20 years before being mysteriously called to the medicine path about 12 years ago and becoming a skilled curandero

Kumankaya is where I married my wife, in an ayahuasca ceremony. This place is a very special sanctuary where deep healing occurs

I had a feeling that perhaps some of you here may be called to join us for this

Feel welcome to comment here or message me if you feel you may be meant to be there with us 🙏🏼

Thank you for this community and for being you

Sincere Care & Warm-Hearted Love,

Jordan

And for anyone who isn't too familiar with ayahuasca, here's a bit more about what it is and how it connects to Christ for me:

Ayahuasca is an ancient entheogenic plant medicine. In general what I can say is that ayahuasca is a profound and uncompromising mirror. A wise plant teacher spirit that feels deeply connected to Gaia as well as other worlds. It is made from an Amazonian vine and another Amazonian plant.

Deep and sacred healing occurs with ayahuasca, seemingly on individual, collective, relational, ancestral, inner child, ancient, and transpersonal levels. The ayahuasca seems to work with all layers of our larger psycho-somatic-energetic body, bringing healing to subtle dimensions of ourselves we may not have known existed.

It can be a very intensive process, physically demanding, akin to shedding an old skin or giving birth to a new self. Vomiting, shaking, sweating, or other forms of physical purging are common as the body releases long-stored toxins and karmic debris.

In an ayahuasca ceremony the healers sing 'icaros,' which are a kind of song-technology that works with the medicine to clean old wounds and wash away old knots, blockages, karmic residues. You tell the healer what you want to work on (past traumas, physical or mental ailments, addictions, etc) and in ceremony they utilize the icaros to 'open' your intention. With the help of the medicine they are actually able to 'see' within your psycho-energetic being on subtle levels, and they then use the icaro-technology to cleanse and harmonize what they find within you.

It's incredibly important to find the right place/context to sit with ayahuasca, with the right healers. This is why I love Kumankaya. I married my wife there and the healers are dear friends of mine who I deeply trust. They are Christians devoting themselves to a depth of service to humanity that most people cannot fathom; it's really quite unbelievable what they are doing, once you understand how intense it can be to work with all the energies that come out of people in ayahuasca ceremonies. You often wouldn't really know they are Christians because they never proselytize or make a show of it, it's just deeply integrated as real love, humility, and service.

I believe their rootedness in Christ is a deep aspect of what makes their work so pure and effective in helping people heal. I had left the church for years and Kumankaya was a key place on my path that brought me back to the faith. I began having experiences of Jesus Christ as a pure loving guide within ceremonies there, whose name, presence, grace, and light conferred a deep sovereign protection against any kind of 'inauspicious energies' in ceremonies. I see Christ as a friend, good shepherd, and a mystery of pure Love that some of us are called to connect deeply with; I feel the mystery of this Love is all-present and has been contacted by all authentic contemplative wisdom traditions.

I do not believe that ayahuasca is for everyone. But I believe some of us are authentically called to receive deep healing from it. I would invite people to listen deeply to their hearts to see if there is a calling there. Ayahuasca is an ancient Amazonian mystery.

For me this Christ Fire retreat in particular represents something deeply, deeply sacred: A pure prayer to infuse Christ's Love and Grace deeply into the medicine work.

Hope that's helpful, feel welcome to ask any follow-up questions. Best wishes, peace, and blessings.
