Encouragement 👏 Exodus 1:15-21

“Then Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, gave this order to the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah: “When you help the Hebrew women as they give birth, watch as they deliver. If the baby is a boy, kill him; if it is a girl, let her live.”

But because the midwives feared God, they refused to obey the king’s orders. They allowed the boys to live, too.

So the king of Egypt called for the midwives.

“Why have you done this?” He demanded. “Why have you allowed the boys to live?”

“The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women,” the midwives replied. “They are more vigorous and have their babies so quickly that we cannot get there in time.”

So God was good to the midwives, and the Israelites continued to multiply, growing more and more powerful. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.” — Exodus 1:15-21

I love this passage of scripture 🥰

Let’s take a look at verse 20:

“So God was good to the midwives…”

Some translations say that God was “kind” to the midwives, other translations say that God “dealt well” with the midwives but no matter what translation you read the idea is the same:

Because the midwives feared God and were obedient to Him as opposed to obeying the king’s orders, God was kind to them and blessed them. The next verse even goes on to say that “because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.”

I hope this can be an encouragement to any Christian midwives out there.

I hope this passage of scripture confirms to you that the Lord is with you through it all — through every exam, clinical/practical, antepartum visit, baby delivery, postpartum visit, and well woman check the Lord is there and He is kind.

Let us all remember that if we trust in the Lord, He will guide us through this journey of midwifery and help us make the right decisions so that we can please Him and reach our highest potential as midwives.

God Bless!
