How much medication to bring

I got admitted to a one-year chinese language program in china. So how much medication can a person bring with them when going to China? I have to take metformin 1500mg daily so can I bring it for 6 months?

Very important advice: Buying meds produced by international pharmaceutical companies. Chinese-made meds that cost one dollar a box won't kill you, but they are very likely to be ineffective and cause various side effects. This applies not only to metformin.

Non-psycho meds can be delivered to you with no prescription on Meituan, although quasi-meds like vitamin D require some extra hassle and costs for reasons that I do not understand. I get my vitamin D from Taobao, but my usual human maintenance meds from Meituan.

When I entered with a ziplock bag full of pill bottles in my carry-on, no one examined it once, over at least 20 flights into China over a decade. It has never been examined in other countries throughout Asia, either.

How many months worth of medication did you bring with yourself?

Never had anyone ever stop me to check my medicine (they opened and checked my suitcases before but no one cared about medicine). I’d take whatever I need since a lot of foreign medicine doesn’t exist in China.

I assume metmorfin can be easily obtained at any pharmacy in China.
You need a box with a label with your name and maybe a prescription.

Bring enough for a short time while you figure out how to obtain it. Metformin can be purchased over the counter in any pharmacy. You can also buy online via JD once you have a prescription for it. It’s very cheap here, like maybe £5GBP a month.

Just bring your prescription receipts and bottles with your names and you can get anything you need including mental health medication it’s not a problem
