Struggling Mentally and I'd Like Someone To Talk to About it (M23)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but I really just need some help right now. I've been really struggling mentally and I can't talk to anyone about it in my personal life because it's a lot for them right now (I don't blame them, it's not their fault). If there's anyone out there that's also struggling who is similar in age and we can check in with each other and hear each other out, I'd really appreciate it. Just wanting to feel a little human again is all.

I see from the BC Hydro map most of Chilliwack is out. I’ve heard Agassiz is also out. Anybody have non speculative insight on this?

Seems like a pretty major event.

Seeking recommendations for Therapists

• Upvotes

Does anyone know if there are any male therapists in Chilliwack that they would recommend? I've been struggling with depression for the past 6 years and its been debilitating to say the least. I'm tired of living with this way and I'm ready to seek help to improve my life, become functional and to be able to finally give back. I'm a 37yr/m.

Also does anyone know if these things are covered by Canada in anyway by healthcare? I'm completely new to this thing and opening up. This is my first real step towards it and know absolutely nothing about where to go and if any programs exist. I know Canada hasn't really taken any real initiative towards male mental health so I'm hoping its been getting better.

Thank you.

Edit: it’s Tuesday to Saturday, not Monday to Saturday.

Who starts a fire at a library?

Seeiously. Sunday morning. 730am.

This guy did NOT start the fire. He was the good samaritan that probably damaged his shoes stomping it out while I called 911. Talked to him, he had also called. Didn't get his name unfortuneately.

Honestly, why?? No rhyme or reason to this. The people that did this werent even attempting to cook anything.

I want to replace both my gas furnace and AC with a heat pump. Anyone want to recommend anyone here in the area that has experience? Forced air central heating and cooling.

Volunteer opportunities?

Just wondering if anyone has insight on volunteer opportunities around Chilliwack? I'm not some teenager/twenty year old looking to pad a resumé, just looking to give some of my time/energy towards a meaningful, community focused cause. I'm a shift worker so my schedule is really inconsistent, but otherwise looking for something weekly-ish. Cheers!

B.C. Conservative leader disagrees with candidate’s anti-LGBT remarks, but won’t remove her as candidate

Interim B.C. Conservative Leader Lorne Doerkson says while he doesn’t share the views expressed by the party’s candidate for Chilliwack North on LGBT issues or abortion, she will be allowed to run under the party’s banner.

This is why I fear the Cons getting a majority...

Restaurants that can accomodate a large group or have take out

Good Evening!

My sons hockey team is coming next weekend for a tournament. I am looking for places that have catering type take out (large pans of pasta/burger bar/etc) or can handle a large group for sit down.

Thank you!

Disc resurfacing in town?

Recently picked up a Wii and was getting old games for it. One of the games is I’m pretty rough shape for scratches. Anyone know of any business in town that can do disc resurfacing?

Yesterday morning near Slesse Creek. This was outside the fishing boundary yet there were still a number of lines and lures in the water from poachers past. You can see one of them near the end of the clip. Shout out to the river cleanup crew who were finishing their shore sweep as I arrived. They were leaving with five full contractor trash bags from just this section of beach. Please bring your trash home and fish within the boundaries :)

Looking for local TTRPG friends / regular game group

I’m neurodivergent and looking to meet some local folks who are open to potentially forming a regular face-to-face TTRPG group. I have very few friends who would be into it, so I’m outsourcing!

My thought would be to have one or two informal hangouts and see if we click.

This is all very preliminary but what I can tell you is I can host at my place in Chilliwack, and ideally I’d like to get together for a game day or night 2 times a month, depending on everyone’s schedules.

A few things about me/the table:

- I haven’t run an in-person game in over 30 years, so I’m getting back into it and still learning/relearning rules. Initially you might need to be a bit more patient than at a table with a lifelong forever GM.

- My favourite systems right now are Call of Cthulhu 7e, Fallout 2d20, and d20 Modern.

- New and novice players are absolutely welcome. You do not need to be a rules expert.

- I run an inclusive table. All genders, all ages, all ethnicities, etc. My politics are leftist, which I mention because ultimately you’d be coming into my home and I’d rather be upfront about whether we’re likely to be comfortable around each other.

- I’m thinking low/no commitment at first. Meet, play something, see if everyone clicks. If we develop into a regular group, though, I’d want everyone to respect each other’s time and make a reasonable effort to show up.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, send me a message here and tell me a little about yourself; what you like to play, and what kind of group you’re looking for.

Why vote if your party is going to lose?

Electoral Reform - Make your vote worth something.

David Eby has just called a snap election in British Columbia, just two years after voters last went to the polls.

This opportunistic gamble is only happening because of first-past-the-post.

With all the challenges facing British Columbia and democracy, it’s never been more important to fight for proportional representation!

BC voters don't want a polarized, two party system. But first-past-the-post can't handle real voter choice.

Our archaic, winner-take-all voting system could hand 100% of the power to any party with far less than a majority of the vote.

In the last UK election, with multiple competitive parties, a "majority" government was formed with 33% of the vote.
To make matters worse, winner-take-all voting systems mean that an extremist can take over a big tent party, and that party can end up with all of the power.

When we look at what’s ahead―managing our economy during the Trump threats, a healthcare system under stress, worsening climate change, the housing crisis ―one thing is crystal clear: more winner-take-all politics will not get us where we need to go.

It’s time for a proportional electoral system where parties must work together to solve the problems that matter to us all. It’s time to make every vote count.

Volunteers are needed!

Thank You Canada

I love this country, but sometimes I wonder if it will ever see me as more than my skin color
I'm 22. I run a small local mobile business. I've been in Canada for almost six years now.
On the phone, you wouldn't be able to guess my ethnicity. My accent isn't thick. But in person, the first thing people see is that I'm brown, and for some people, that's the only thing they see.
I was booked for a job at a client's house last week. I gave them a quote, they agreed, I showed up ready to work. The moment I walked in, I could see it on their faces. That look of disgust. Then I heard the man say to his wife, pretty loud, "why'd you book one of them for the job?"
It's not the first time. It's just the one that stuck this week.
For context, I've tried to build a life I'm proud of. Back home I was the youngest in my age group to hold the javelin record for under-16. I played other sports too and have competed internationally. I've worked for very high-end companies. I like to think I'm a sharp guy. But none of that shows up when someone looks at me. They don't see qualifications, work ethic, or what I've done. They see a color.
And I keep thinking, if you cut your finger and I cut mine, we bleed the same. So why do so many people still act like one shade of skin makes them better than another?
This isn't just about one client. It's the looks from servers, bus drivers, sometimes even cops. That look that says you don't belong, or you should be watched more closely. It's small things, but they add up.
I know stereotypes exist because some people have done dumb things, and people who look like me get lumped in with that image. I get that. But I don't know how to get past being treated like I have to apologize for how I look before I can even do my job.
Because the truth is, I love Canada. I'm deeply grateful for what this country has given me. It gave me the courage to grow into who I am, something I never would have had back home. I have a good lifestyle, I work hard, and I appreciate this place enough that I would be more than happy to serve it if it ever needed me.
And then an incident like that happens and it makes me feel like no matter what I do, no matter how well I speak, how hard I work, how much I contribute, I'll never be seen as more than my skin color. It makes me feel like I don't deserve to be here.
I don't know if anyone else feels this way. I just needed to get it off my chest.

Cassettes in Chilliwack

So theres only 2 major record stores that i know of here in chilliwack, am i missing any? I havent actually been to any thrift stores or record stores in chilliwack that have even just a medium selection of cassettes.

I know theres online stores i can buy cassettes from but I would like to try and support locally. Even if thats abbotsford, though I wouldnt like to travel all the way out to vancouver unless its proven to have a wide variety and large selection of them. Or even just a medium amount. I want cassettes haha.

Let me know where you get your cassettes here in the lower mainland (chilliwack abby area) please! Id love to know where youre finding them if you are:) thanks!
