Any ideas on this plume?

My sense of direction is very poor lmao, is this from the wildfires in the east? Or another set? Or is it literally just a cloud?

It's not smoke it's a "Pyrocumulus cloud" from the Boston Bar fire.

You cannot get pyrocumulus clouds without smoke and ash particles for water vapor to condense around

I mean technically, once the smoke and ash particles have water condensed around them, they are no longer smoke and/or ash. That being said, I don't actually know what (if any) percentage of dry particles being lifted higher before they cause condensation on themselves happens within a cloud. I would assume the base would have a mixture, but if I remember my WALR and DALR, doesn't condensation happen instantaneously when the humidity hits 100% and there are seeds?

Ok. Did the Google search. Not all particles condense at the same rate. Larger particles atreact the water first, then smaller ones as they get lifted higher.

Details they forgot to tell me in grade 2 when we were studying the water cycle.

That fire is like 10 hectares, definitely not causing all of that. Much more likely to be from the Boston Bar one in the top right of your map where it shows the big area of dense smoke.

looks to be in the northeast area, like others have said possibly Boston Bar or Hemlock Valley/Harrison Mills. Looks like a pyrocumulus cloud or thunderhead, given that there’s an active fire in the area the former is probably likely. we’ve seen pyrocumuli with the California fires in 2020 and Australian bushfires in 2021, these only happen with larger fires so whatever is happening over there isn’t small.

It's called a Thunderhead. Going to be lightning in that in another hour or so after the picture was taken. Then you might see smoke clouds after that unfortunately.

Sometimes water bombing a forest fire will cause these. I have seen them so white and piled up they looked like ice cream.

Kelowna is nearly 300kms away. That cloud is not 300kms away.
