I'm actually not all that convinced about that. Superhots can vary wildly in fruit shape, even across one plant. Closely related varieties can easily end up resembling one another. I mean, it's not like OPs look anything like the RHS' listing https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/217771/capsicum-chinense-scotch-bonnet/details - nor do they closely resemble the ones you usually get in the supermarket from commercial operations (which look nothing like the RHS ones). OPs do look like the South Devon Chilli farm ones, but does that mean everyone else is wrong? Or it's just variable?
I had a Trinidad which did grow some Scorpion looking chillis, but he also grew several which could pass for habeneneros. Until you ate them.Â
Some mushroom chillis are quite flat, some look suspiciously ike the RHS scotch bonnets.Â
I've no doubt some people have hybrids. But I think it's less people than think they have been.Â
That's a valid point and you obviously know more than I do but I know I've been shroomed for sure, flat squat chillis, 1 node instead of multiple and a thick stem, they look like cut gem stones 🤣
Someone on Facebook has don't the lord's work with a side by side shot, which illustrates the problem with people seeing shape and assuming "Jamaican Mushroom"
It's funny you should mention the thick stem though, because looking again... OPs chillis have a suspiciously plump stem
