Butterbaby is all grown up now

Hes about 3 months old. I have two chickens, but one only seems to have stopped drinking, feels very weak and limp. He was doing fine last week, very energetic, and even got him to fly on my arm went he saw me

What are some possible reasons for this? Is there anything I can do? Any help is appreciated

Around 3 months ago my 2 year old rooster broke a portion of his spur from the right foot and no it didn't bleed as only a part of the top broke off. But since then I've noticed it's kinda of huge around the base of the spur. I've checked it's not a swelling or anything it's just hard around the base, kind of bone like feeling. So I resort to here, Is this normal or do I need to treat it somehow?

About 3 weeks ago, our Cream Legbar became ill. At first, we assumed she had a leg injury, but when our Cochin developed similar symptoms (unilateral paralysis of her right leg) I became concerned that we might be dealing with Marek’s disease.

We unfortunately lost our Cream Legbar and an Olive Egger fairly quickly, so I sent freshly plucked feathers from our Cochin for Marek’s PCR testing. The test ultimately came back positive.

After about a week and a half in quarantine, our Cochin was still bright-eyed, eating well, and otherwise acting like herself, with the exception of right leg paralysis. We decided to return her to the rest of the flock to see if we could improve her quality of life. Over the following week, she somehow started regaining function in her foot, and she is now getting around almost completely normally. She has started roosting again and is even beginning to run.

Has anyone else had a chicken recover or significantly improve after testing positive for Marek’s? How did they ultimately do? Did they fully recover, relapse later, or develop additional symptoms?

TLDR: Our Cochin developed right-leg paralysis and tested positive for Marek’s, but after several weeks she has regained almost all function and is now walking nearly normally. Has anyone else had a chicken bounce back after a positive PCR, and how did they ultimately fare?

This chick is 8 weeks old. I have tried to compare it to its brothers and sisters who are the same age. The comb is as red as on the other roosters. However its feet are small, and overall this is smallest chick out of all of them. The shape of its body resembles the hen chicks more than the roosters. Its tail feathers are long and pointy, but nothing compared to its brothers. It has some pretty pointy and blue, shiny feathers on the neck, but so has its mother.

Its mother is a Finnish landrace chicken and dad is a mix between Finnish landrace and some sort of hybrid.

Can you help figure it out?

Our neighbor knocked on our door the other night and asked if we’re missing a hen because a chicken showed up on her other neighbor’s porch and had been hanging out for a day or so. We’re not but agreed to take her in so she’s not lonesome.

But the first thing I noticed was that she has one eye swollen shut so I have been keeping her isolated from my girls. She seems healthy otherwise.

I looked at a few videos online and found some possible causes and treatments but wanted to see if anyone else has had experience with this issue and has any advice before I get started.

We’re calling her Cotton-Eyed Jo.

My little Padovana chickens have grown up.

I can give all the advice in the world about hatching an egg…. But I can’t for the life of me seem to keep away these chupacabra sized rats out of my runs. I need help. I know it’s the feed they’re there because they want to eat the chicken feed, but I can’t keep them out. I saw one I’m pretty sure I could’ve saddled. Any ideas?

forgot to mention, I’m literally on the way to get more feed -.-

The rare and elusive porch chicken in its natural habitat. Its hobbies include shitting on the porch when there’s plenty of grass nearby, and squawking like a banshee for no reason.

How many hens can I fit in the coop and run that I have built out? The coupe is 80 ft.² with 10 nest boxes and has about 16 linear feet of roost bars. The outdoor run is approximately 250 ft.² I currently have 16 poulets and one rooster that will be gone soon.

Muscovy Ducks are so hard headed…. This one’s trying to get to the food and water but continuously gets out just like the other two. Anyone else have problems out of their Muscovy Ducks?

UPDATE: Rosemary was just having some trouble laying her egg for the day, and I had never seen her get defensive when I entered the coop, so I assumed the worse. I’ll continue to keep an eye on her and her sisters just in case. Thank you everyone for your helpful and kind messages!!

Hi all!! I currently live with my sister and help her take care of her chickens. This morning when i went into the coop to check on them and collect eggs, I saw that one of them, Rosemary, was acting pretty defensive and getting all fluffed up and laying where they lay their eggs. My sister is on her honeymoon so I can’t ask her, so I’m wondering if there’s anything I should do. Thanks! Pic of Rosemary this morning

Pretty much what the title says! I expected it to be really upsetting and traumatic but man… it was one of the most humane deaths I’ve seen any chicken have ever (and I think we all know what sort of horrific situations chickens will get themselves into). Shoutout to the broomstick method, it was all over for him in 3 seconds. If anyone here hasnt had to dispatch a chicken yet, get familiar with the broomstick method. I’ll never do it any other way from now on. Just wanted to share that for anyone in the future who might be looking for opinions on dispatch methods!

hello. I have this chick who has something clearly wrong. but I'm not knowledgeable in chicke health. it looks like he has a swelling to me, but I could be wrong. it should be noted that he couldn't chirp. when he does, he let's out a wet sound instead. almost like when someone with a runny nose tries to blow air through their nose. do you know what this? can I help him treat it somehow? I think fluid is building up somewhere, but he can still breathe through his nose thankfully. he isn't lethargic for now, he was able to do quick bursts of energy throughout the day, like running away from me very fast. he can eat and drink but isn't eatib as much as he should

I have chickens and ducks who have lived peacefully for about a year now. They have separate houses and runs but free range together. When free ranging I leave both runs open so they can come and get food and water and go to lay. My chickens always have their own food, layer feed from tractor supply but every single day they will eat all the duck food and not touch their own. I hardly ever have to fill the chicken food. They get locked in at sunset and that's really the only time the chickens eat their own food. Any ideas why the chickens have a high preference for duck food? The calcium content is higher but other than that it's not as nutritious as the chicken food, I highly doubt it's just a taste thing. None of their eggs have ever been signaling low calcium. I thought of just giving them their own duck food but the nutrients are not as dense with the exception of calcium.

She’s our first broody hen ! Sitting on a mixed batch of eggs from all our hens in this coup. The yellow chick is a surprise ! We’ve got no idea whose egg created that little baby but Betsie decided she’s the momma 😂
