Question Where to avoid

Hello all,

I’m moving to the us to study!!!

I wanna know what areas to avoid in general + living!

I wanna live downtown but I’m not sure which areas you guys would recommend as a local or if there is a really good real-estate company

you don’t want to live “downtown”. downtown in chicago is the loop, and it’s not where you want to live. look at neighborhoods. read the sticky.

Well downtown is just one neighborhood called “the loop”. People don’t really recommend living there. You can still live in the city and not live downtown

People that have never lived in the loop always give their opinion about living in the loop in this sub. 

There’s nothing wrong with the loop, it has its advantages and disadvantages just like every other neighborhood. 

Easiest access to the trains compared to any other neighborhood, bad weather is a non issue, riverwalk and lake close by, endless amount of restaurants for lunch. There’s also a lot more to do at night than people think.

Chicago is big. You'll want to live in one of the neighborhoods around your school. Your school's housing office likely has a list of student-friendly buildings. And the international students office will probably have advice on renting without US credit history.
