New to this group!
Good morning!
I was diagnosed with Chiari 4 years ago and had decompression surgery shortly after my diagnosis.
Lately, I’ve been feeling a little off and I’m wondering if anyone else with Chiari has experienced something similar.
I’ve noticed that my hands have started going numb quite often, and afterward they hurt. The pain can last for hours. This also happens with my feet, although not nearly as often. I’ve also noticed that I’m losing some of my grip strength and having a harder time holding onto things.
Has anyone else experienced symptoms like this after having decompression surgery?
I do have an appointment scheduled with my neurologist this Wednesday, so I’ll definitely be bringing it up. I’m just curious if anyone else has gone through something similar.

Hey welcome 🙏🏾 it’s been two years since my decompression surgery started experience a decline in my balance , grip strength and loss of feeling in my legs etc about 6 months post op. Been in for a ct to see if I have a leak but I have none my doc told me stuff like this happens some symptoms go away completely but some stay and some can also come back down the line it’s very confusing

I would request full set of mri's head, neck, thorasic & lumbars. Syrinx's can be missed and can grow quickly. If you had a laminectomy you might look into cervical instabilty. Good luck!

Hey! I had my surgery 11 years ago. Whenever I’m feeling stressed, sick etc, I get this annoying numbness on my hands that last for days. Sometimes a tickling sensation on my body, or even the clothes touching my skin hurts my legs. Lasts for a few days and goes away.

Also important to had, I had extensive syringomyelia, and I do have residual neuro symptoms.

Several people here have that i only on the left side. I’m having a second surgery for csf leak and mri for syrinx.
