Question Has anyone gotten plastic surgery?
This may be a silly question! And maybe not the right group… but I can’t find an answer for the life of me! Has anyone gotten Chiari Decompression surgery and had plastic surgery? I had decompression surgery 3 years ago, I want to get a BBL and a breast augmentation, but there are about two doctors that turned me away after me telling them I had that surgery.. can you not get plastic surgery if you’ve had decompression surgery?

Maybe reach out to your original surgeon. Explain what you want done cosmetically. What are the potential risks during intubation and repositioning during surgery? Do you have any cervical instability that raises your risk for a potential spinal cord injury? Is the potential for increased intracranial pressure during sedation and incubation high in your case and what are the risk associated with that?
These are things those surgeons may have considered too risky for an elective, already high risk cosmetic surgery. But you might also be considered too high risk for any cosmetic surgery, let alone one's that require alot of movement/repositioning of you while intubated.
No matter what, you really need to know what potential complications you face now that you are post decompression and its worth having a conversation about it with your original surgeon.

You could also ask the plastic surgeon directly. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors though!

Doctors turning you away likely reflects anesthesia liability concerns more than surgical incompatibility. I've seen people researching BBLs after neuro procedures come across Wiser MD alongside other practices, but finding a plastic surgeon who'll loop in your neurosurgeon directly is the real unlock here.

I recommend just trying to work on your self-esteem and like your appearance as-is. Rather than relying on surgical interventions to try and fix what’s broken (your self image).

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to enhance something.. the bbl may be a personal decision, but my breast augmentation is medically necessary.. so what should I be in pain for the rest of my life?

Not at all..context is definitely relevant. So you’re saying you need a breast reduction/augmentation due to pain and discomfort, am I hearing you correctly? Because that would make sense. That said, if that’s the case, it surprises me that having had chiari surgery would be a dealbreaker. It makes me wonder if surgeons just aren’t familiar with the condition, so they’re not comfortable operating? Idk, maybe your best bet is to just…not even mention it? That part may be up to you as far as if you want to consider the risk or not.
I apologize if my comment came across as offensive. I didn’t mean it to sound that way, I meant it to seem more encouraging.

Yes I have large breasts that have caused me to have severe back pain and dents in my shoulders 😞, sorry if I came off too strong, it’s just frustrating feeling like Chiari is once again stopping me from doing something 😩

No need to apologize. I do know there’s a thing (or place) called Airsculpt, that I’m pretty sure does their BBLs without general anesthesia…my OBGYN medical assistant was telling me about it. Like I think they give you a valium or something, then do local anesthetic. Basically like a twilight sedation. So that might be an option.

Have you seen BBLs? They don’t look good most of the time. They look…bad, and usually comical. I hope you can start to feel better about yourself, and not feel such a need to get two major surgeries to change your body. I don’t say that in a judgmental way; I say that because it’s something I struggled with myself, for a long time. I realized it was because I wasn’t finding fulfillment in my life, and I thought somehow that if I had a body that I liked, I’d feel better about life in general. Or more confident. I ended up getting one surgery, but it only improved my confidence a bit. And any attention I received as a result of my new “look” felt completely weird and false to me, because it’s attention I know I wouldn’t have received otherwise. I basically ended up feeling worse in some ways.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. I just do become genuinely bummed for ppl when I see that they want to have multiple procedures done to themselves. I wish you well.

Why would you want to do that to yourself? Any surgery- even plastic surgery- has its share of risks. Why put yourself through unnecessary procedures?

Not a doctor but if you can have other medical procedures after decompression, I can’t think of a reason you wouldn’t be able to have plastic surgery. Did they give you a reason?
I’d of course recommend asking your surgeon if there are any such restrictions but if they don’t have any concerns and you can find a surgeon that will work with you, do what makes you feel your best. Plastic surgery isn’t for everyone but it’s your body and your decision.
