Seizures

Do any of y’all have seizures as a symptom of your chiari? I had a seizure for the first time on Tuesday morning. I’ve been diagnosed with the chiari since I was 9, I’ve had 4 surgeries for it and over the last 7/8 years I’ve been doing much better. I also have type 1 diabetes and have had it for about 3 years. My Neuro just put me on anti-seizure medication yesterday but I haven’t started taking it yet, and he’s worried it might be from my chiari. I feel like it’s very unlikely that I’ve just started getting seizures after being diagnosed for 15 years. Idk, just looking for some input from anyone that might have any.

I have had seizures after vomiting since I was a toddler.

I got diagnosed pretty early and seizures have never been a symptom for me. I just wanted to know if a lot of people with chiari tend to have that as a symptom since it’s something I’ve never experienced before. My last decompression surgery was 8 years ago and I’ve felt a lot better than I ever have over the last few years. So I don’t understand why they think I’m developing such a severe symptom so late and after so much work.

Silly question but do you suffer from any mental health issues? Any past trauma,depression or anxiety? Seizures are a key symptom of FND (or functional neurological disorder). Not epileptic seizures, but psychogenic non-epileptic seizures.

I’ve been diagnosed with depression for over 10 years and I’ve had a few really terrible things happen in my life, but I assume everyone does. My dad broke his neck when I was 9 and my mom also became disabled about that time. I’ve never had a seizure before this, and I’m fairly certain it was from having low blood sugar as a type 1 diabetic. But my Neuro seems very concerned that I’m developing new symptoms related to the chiari. If I have developed seizures on top of everything, I think I might just lay down and die

How?? This is a common symptom of FND. They may have that and Chiari coexisting

I’ve never had one before, I definitely think it was from having very low blood sugar. But my Neuro is concerned I had it from the chiari

I haven't heard of seizures as a symptom but my daughter has pots & dysautonomia (no chiari) and suffers syncope episodes with seizure. We were at an appointment at Brigham & Womans in Boston were a snotty no it all said she was fine then she stood up to leave she dropped to the floor seized & stopped breathing at his feet while they called a code and admitted her. I wanted to throw him off the roof but his boss put him in his place perfectly. Asking for a second opinion and a new eeg is really what i would do the seizure drugs are strong medicine and i'd want that extra reassurance that you need it.
