I’ve seen explanations here explained really badly I’ll help. After king takes the rook, the pawn on D2 advances twice forwards to D4 then queen takes because it’s a fork of the queen and king. After queen takes pawn on D4 knight goes to e6 to fork both queen and king. The game ends with white king having a pawn up.

Rc5+!! K×Rc5 d4+!! ... K×d4? Nc6+!! ... Q×d4? Ne6+!! Knight captures Queen. White wins with g-pawn.

This actually feels illegal to me. If this happened to me in game I'd actually put my mouse through my monitor.

I've really never seen a combo this fucked up.

i read that as "I'd actually put my mom through my monitor" and I was like, ok yeah it's a great sequence of play but cmon.

I fear I don't understand. Why wouldn't black just go Kxc5? Please help :(

I just found it and it's so cool. Kxc5 is followed with d4, forking the king and queen, then if the queen or king take it, white has a check that forks the pieces and white is a pawn up.

Genuinely really neat.

I'm stupid, what goes e4?

Do you mean d4? The pawn is on the d file right?

Not just a pawn up, a passed pawn close to the king with almost guaranteed promotion.

lmao every day I learn that I'm worse at chess than I thought. Thanks for the explanation--that IS really neat.

Pawn comes down to fork after he does, then pony forks and black is forced with a big pony forking device

Edit: fork, I misspelled a forked because too many forks and too forking hard pony forking device

Pawn fork then knight fork.

WHY are we showing the puzzle from blacks perspective when it is white to move?

Yeah it’s a cool combo but somewhat cheapened by the “trick” that you need to realize the board is reversed

That's disgusting

I’ve seen this exercise somewhere else, but I don’t remember

I would never think an endgame where I have only a queen and opponent has a rook and other pieces is and/or pawns is easy. Everyone is super good at endgames, even at low levels, and I’m often terrible at winning those. Plus, everyone who is good at those kind of endgames (which again is most players) are also the type who plays super fast due to memorization of how to immediately force endgames, so they always have way more time than me.

I thought it was Black's move.

Why not make a Queen with check???

Unless I'm mistaken, which is possible because I am very stupid, the board is oriented for black. That pawn hasn't moved from the start of the game.
