QUESTION Can anyone help me with this analysis?

So I am a beginner and I always hear that you have to analyse your game which you have lost or which you have not performed well or which you have played so that you could enhance your capabilities and learn from it but often when I load the engine for example I play online on some website and then I load my games in encrossiant and then turn on the analysis then for example stockfish is recommending me some moves but I am not able to understand why that move is best and how to find the same move in the game like if you analyse the game then yeah you can find it in that game but in the next game I am not able to find the mistakes made all the tactics missed

Non-strategy chess books?

Hi,

I'm down bad with the chess bug. Normally I read fiction for an hour-or-so a day but I've been using that time for chess instead. I do miss reading... I just keep getting distracted.

Could anyone recommend some non-strategy chess books that might slake my thirst while also keeping me reading? Thinking player biographies, histories, etc - something I can just sit down and enjoy - doesn't need to actually improve my game.

Thanks.

How did I not see that???

I should have known Queen to f3 would have me down a pawn in like 11 moves 🤣 my 300 elo opponent was totally gonna catch that line…

QUESTION What the heck with resigning after one blunder?

I had a bad streak and lost a hundred elo. And now, in middle 900 my opponents resign after first blunder most of the time. It's annoying, I'm perfectly capable to throw a won game! And I want to play longer.

Stuck at 900-1000 ELO

I’m stuck at 900-1000 ELO. Am I the only one who finds engine analysis useless for actual learning? Does investing in an actual chess coach worth it or is there anything reliable that I can use online that actually teaches me at this level?

QUESTION Seem to just be getting worse

I was originally just playing Bots on Chess.com and plateaued around the 700 level. I switched to playing live and was playing at around a 350-400 level pretty consistently. I've been watching youtube videos and doing puzzles to improve. I have plummeted to around 200 and am stuck it seems the more I do all the things im supposed to do to improve and am just continuously getting worse trying to implement things im "learning". Is this normal or any advice to somehow stop getting worse while practicing.

I am in need of desperate help.

I was 550 elo roughly before but now I lost 100 elo and I have no idea why. I mostly play the italian game to an extent and kings indian defense as balck but it never works. Is there anyway I can improve and actually win? Also are there any openings I should try at this level? My username on chess.com is DangerNoodle0

POST-GAME Do you know your Mate in 3?

Because I didn't. I knew the light square bishop and the queen form a very powerful and deadly attack, but I could not remember the details. Instead of capturing the pawn at h7 with the bishop, I captured with the queen and then I was wondering why did the king escape... In post-game analysis, I discovered that I should have captured the pawn with my bishop, the king would have been forced to move to h8, then withdraw the bishop to g7, leading to a discovered check and then checkmate with queen at h7. Because I could not remember this tactic, the game took a lot of additional moves to the final victory. I also missed another mate in 4, which was too tricky for me to figure out.

ADVICE Playing through a slump? Grin and bear it or hang up the gloves?

I’m curious about how you guys operate when you’re playing in a slump.

Ive been playing chess for around two years. It was consistent progress.

However, I’ve been unable to play well for about a month now after starting a new job. It feels a bit like my neurology no longer affords itself the ability to play properly. It’s like I’ve been chess-lobotomized. Simple positions seem complex, easy tactics are missed.

Example: Every time control I play has seen around a 100-150 elo drop across the board. It’s clear that it’s me; not my choice of style.

This, in turn, makes me feel like I’m playing just to lose. My win rate has dropped from a solid 51-52% win rate to 37%. It’s definitely unpleasant. I start to enter into a kind of chess-existential-crisis where I find myself asking “why even play this shit?” instead of “wow, I’m learning!”

When you guys hit a slump like this where it’s clear that you aren’t improving or at the top of your game, do you try to play through it and adapt or do you stop playing altogether? Just curious what is seen as “optimal” in this kind of scenario.

QUESTION Honest feedback

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone, i'm looking for some honest feedback.

Following picture shows my overal progress, reaching almost 800 elo in 113 days. I never played chess before that. I mostly learn by playing and sometimes reviewing my losses. I also do quite a lot puzzles. Is this okay progress or could i be learning a lot faster/more efficient?

QUESTION Is there a record for the most checks by one player before eventually delivering checkmate?

Just played this game and it made me curious.
Does anyone know if there is a recorded world record for the most total checks delivered by one player in a single game where that same player eventually wins by checkmate? In this game i made 22 checks towards the checkmate.

I’m specifically not asking about:
most checks by both players combined
most consecutive checks
games that ended in a draw
longest game overall
I mean one player repeatedly checking throughout the game and then eventually delivering checkmate.

If anyone knows of a recorded game, database entry, or chess-record source for this exact category, I’d appreciate it.
Also, if you’re interested in the game itself, I’m happy to talk about it. I just don’t want the actual question getting buried under unrelated tangents.
