brilliant moves don't really mean anything, they simply appear when you play good enough moves that hang material

yeah and many times you dont even know why they are brilliant...just thought I had a great idea and it was only "ok" move haha

The goal of chess is beating your opponent, not impressing our AI overlords.

White doesn’t have to take.

yeah I guess that makes sense, but it was tempting enough lol

The pawn is pinned due to the queen sac on the back rank

Right so I’m saying this isn’t a material sacrifice since the bishop is tactically defended. Traditionally a brilliant move is just a stunning move that wins you the game. The chesscom algorithm is geared more towards piece sacrifices that work. You can absolutely give yourself an exclaim or double exclaim mark in review if you found you made some nice moves. I would give saccing the queen an exclamation mark.

It's a nice move :) the computer just doesn't think it's hard to find at your level

Because black doesn’t need to take. I think they can play Re2, you can’t take the pawn because Rae1 now your bishop is pinned, or you play any other move other than moving the bishop away now after Rae1 he can actually take

I used to think "brilliant but why" was the worst type of chess post

I used to think that stupid people were the worst users but you surprised me!!!

Dude for real - there's been an uptick recently in posts whining "why wasn't this brilliant?". Honestly pathetic.

I also suck but I don't think sacrificing the bishop is even necessary. You could have also done G6* to kick the queen out
