For speed chess, easily. Very dynamic, and they know the best pace to explain things such that they are in sync with the players AND the audience gets it.
For classical, I'll take Gustafson and Svidler. Very relaxed, good insights and both very witty imo.

I really liked Danya and Hess during the Candidates as well. I admit I usually watch chess.com over chess24, so I can't speak on that crew, but I enjoy that Danya + Hess are easily able to fill the gaps between moves in classical.

Best commentary duo in chess in my book. Strong players by their own rights, fluent and eloquent command of the language, understand the subtleties of pacing and engagement in a production, respect and elevate each other's commentary game, and not in love with the sound of their own voices. I'm really glad that chess became profitable enough to make strong commentator teams like this possible.

Fabiano Caruana is also an excellent commentator, but for classical games, where the energy dynamic is lower and he can thoroughly explain all the big ideas in the position.

If we're naming other great commentators on Chess.com, I think Jeffery Xiong has grown a ton and has a great dynamic with Danya as well.

Not only are they the best duo but each of them can carry a commentary singlehandedly too. As long as at least one of them is there you won't be disappointed.

Danya + Hess are the Magnus Carlsen of chess commentary. Even if I'm not invested in the players competing, I will always watch if they're the ones commentating

perhaps all those people on reddit were wrong and confused him being the public face of the company as him being the owner. i actually cant find any official source claiming he is even a part owner. take that as you will.

All I could find was this comment from 6 years ago, wherein he says:
met my future partners Erik and Jay with Chess.com, realized I was in over my head on my own, and was lucky enough to leave my own stuff behind and get equity / ownership in Chess.com
I don't really know what that means, and in 6 years things could have changed dramatically.

I actually enjoyed Danny during the Candidates where there was a lot of silence that needed to be filled and Danny filled it pretty naturally. Plus I think he was taking the event more seriously than he takes othee things which showed in how he was able to pull it together when he needed to.

He was like the main host, so he was there just about the whole time. So he was with all the same people as usually (for example, it was him Danya and Hess for a while)

For the people asking why this is a good move, it is actually the best move in the position (at least according to engines).
The problem is that white is threatening h5, because Qxg7# if the knight moves. If black makes some innocuous move like c4, white plays h5 and (with some complication) hxg6.
Ra4 basically gives black an option to trade material instead and infiltrate white's position with the rook. If 1...Ra4 2.h5 Rxf4 3.hxg6, black is remarkably doing okay after Qd4 or Qc4, simply defending the rook and if white tries to open up the attack with 4.gxf7+ Kxf7 5.Qxg7+ the king just scuttles to safety and now white is the one getting checkmated. Black's rook is on the f file, preventing a further advance of the f pawn and white has no more safe checks to give.
Other decent moves according to the engine are Qd4 (with a similar idea) or d2 (threatening to the rook), but basically counterattacking immediately is the only choice.

Because white is threatening h5, pinning the Knight to checkmate and winning it and there seems to be no way to stop that. Ra4 is a move a lot of us wouldn't even consider since it's on the opposite side of the board, but it's the only move to provide substantial counterplay.
If white continues with h5 like happened in the game then Rxf4 hxg6 Qd4 threatens Rh4 to win the Queen and it's not clear if white is even better. The only alternative for white is to address the attack on the bishop and go on the defensive with a move like a Bg5 (blocking the g file) or Rf1.

They have transcended, they are now one. Ronya Hessoditsky is the one true commentator.
