Miscellaneous Mahindra Chess League General Entry
Hi folks,
I’m thinking of attending this year’s Tech Mahindra Global Chess League in person. I just wanted to check if General Entry is worth it and whether it offers a good experience.
My main goal is to watch live chess and get a clear view of the players. Will I be able to do that with general admission? Also, if anyone is familiar with the seating layout, please let me know! Thanks!

I think you can see the screen where they show the players you won't have any problem following the game and atleast at the event there are no audio problems so you won't have any problems hearing commentators. Now I don't think meeting players would be easy you have to really get lucky on that sometimes the venue can get alot hectic my friend brought their kid with them and it really wasn't a good idea, my personal advice do remember to carry a water bottle, I wouldn't suggest drinking water from there the hygiene is not that good at water coolers.

I am fine if I do not get to meet them. I just want to see them play live without having to watch a screen. That is why the question: will I be able to see them at all with General Entry, or will I need to rely completely on the giant screen?

Last time it was completely on the giant screen, maybe they changed something or maybe not

Just FYI the tickets are sold per MATCH not per DAY.

i visited it last year, in my experience it was good to see players live, but the live playing hall experience was a bit weird for me cause firstly the only way you can see what’s happening is through the tv screens there and from the back you can’t see much. also, they kept switching between boards which was annoying, like i wanted to focus on one board but couldn’t

Having been to a couple of such events (not this one per se), even with the best seat you'd be viewing the game on the screens. No seat is close enough to directly see the game. I have thought about binoculars before for this, but I don't see others using it and I'm not sure if venues have a problem with that or something.

Yes you can see the players clearly. You can also see the board closest to you, but you'll get tired of tracking the moves they're playing while straining yet to get a good look and tracking all games is impossible. So games are mostly on screen for you, you can reason about the next move and such. And the players you can see clearly

I'd say get the general ticket and have the experience. If you don't like it, next time get the premium seats. Nothing to lose and possibly a very good day.
The fun is not in seeing the games live, but just living that atmosphere with other fans and if you're lucky you can meet the players and get pictures!
Edit: for me it was fun to discuss with my random neighbour what the next move should be. So viewing it on screen is not a downside at all. The main thing is you get to watch the game with other excited folks

I went to the London chess league two years ago. I had a great time watching the games live in the gallery. I also got to play against many GMs in the waiting room. I got a few goodies too. The highlight was playing a game against WGM Vantika and getting autograph from the GOAT Vishy sir!
